Alright, I have a 91 Eclipse GSX and i just pulled the tranny out of it because of what i thought was a torque converter problem which turned out to be no problem at all except for low fluid.........dumb i know. I put it all back together and it felt fine, however, i soon noticed that i would start off in first then it would shift to second just fine and that was it. Also once i slowed down i noticed that it wouldn't downshift either so i took it out and played with it for a moment and noticed that in drive it would do all that and not go past second but if i manually shifted down to "2" it would downshift to first and putting the shifter into "1" wouldn't do anything. Once i start the car it will shift all the way through and downshift fine for about 5 minutes then do the same thing again. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Is your CEL on? Did you pull the TCU's codes? This is how you pull the codes from the TCU. TCU Codes

Did you make sure that all the connectors were plugged back in on the trans when you put it back in? I have had this problem with allot of wires in the engine bays of DSM's that they get brittle and literally snap in half. Make sure there are no broken wires as well.

What is CEL? And yes, i went through all the wires last night and they all looked good except one and i fixed it. I've always been very proficient at working on just about anything and let me tell ya, i've never seen anything like this in my life. How can it just work for 5 minutes and then stop???

Nevermind, LOL, I know what CEL is and no its not on.

Update........After extensive looking through everything i found that the reason for this was one or both of the two sensors all the way on the end of the tranny were bad. I didnt actually know either of them were bad but i had exhausted all my resources and i finally just thought i would take some sensors off my old auto tranny and see what happened. Took 5 minutes and everything runs smooth. God Bless the AWD 4G63T for being so much of a headache to work on but in the end its all worth it when you feel that boost hit the power band and keep impreza's second guessin'
