help 16g rebuild

Im rebuilding a MHI big 16g and i opened it up and found that there were no small snaprings inside holding the bearings in place, there appears to be a small lip that holds them. I dont recall ever seeing that before however my last rebuild was on a 14b. Anyone know if i should be concerned or just continue

Most 16G's use two circular retaining rings, one at the inside of each journal...it's best to leave them in place if you're not getting the housing honed.
