The biggest thing you will need a manual and help for would be the wiring after you get the head on. I was fortunate with My first one because everything was still hooked up and I just had to put it back on the same way it came off. But that is what we are all here for. When the time comes, ask away.:thumb:

I bought my car without a head on it and havent had it running since. I just picked up a used one and wanted to put it on so i can check out the transmission and everything because i have no information on the cars history. This is my first car but I learn pretty easy, could i do it myself?

I also bought the 3g lifters and high temp valve seals. What do i need to put these in?

And also, have you had better luck with Haynes or Chiltons? I have the manual on cd but i think its the rip off one and is not that useful.

Dude I have a haynes manual but I didnt use it much... dsmtuners.com is the best manual i had. It was worth walking inside to search for answers sometimes :)... Yes you can do a head install yourself, I did it and I am retarded.

The lifters just drop in their little holes. I think it will be best to let a shop do the valve seals this time though.

Pick up some ARP head studs and a cometic head gasket if you plan on making some HP. Also install the head with the intake manifold on it already to make it a bit 'easier' on you. All thats left is timing it and installing the accessory belts. It is an easy weekend job if you take your time.. and search :)

good luck

i would have a machine shop install your valve stuff / valve job with your parts. it is just easier for a first timer.

I did my first head gasket in less than 2 hours with the help of a friend and my chiltons manual. I'd say if you take your time and make sure to do it right you'll have to problem doing it in an afternoon. I tend to agree about the valve seals though, might want to have somebody do that for you. Also, if you didn't buy that head new then you might want to take it to a shop and make sure its not warped or cracked before you try to put it on.

Thanks for the great advice. I think i will try to do it myself and if i mess it up i will have my buddy from work do it, hes making a 900whp evo right now so it would be a piece of cake for him. But i will take your advice and take it to a machine shop first.
Thanks Again
