Im purchasing a big16 evoiii turbo, with a evoiii exhaust mani, and evoiii o2 housing. I have:

660 injectors
manual boost controller
greddy type s bov
2.5 catback
injen intake
190 fuel pump
act 2100
dsmlink
upper/lower hard ic piping
hks turbo timer
o2 dump
stock 6bolt block with 0 miles

and the question comes here with my STOCK side mount intercooler.... I want to purchase a FMIC soon as i possibly can afford one but cant afford one now. My question is this.. With a new evo3 turbo and all these mods, dont I need one like soon? Like if i wait off a lil and keep the 6x6 peice of SHAT stock intercooler, nothings gonna get messed up n shit right? I would get one now, but all i have is enough for the block and turbo + goods.

So is it safe to keep my stock IC with all these mods for the time being?

Your motor has 0 miles on it. During your engine breakin period the stock sidemount will be fine.
However once you start running it you'll heat soak it within a matter of minutes. It might be okay for a run or two but that's it.
Once you start throwing super hot air into your intake manny, things definately start changing.
You'll want a FMIC before you start beatin' it. Otherwise you may in fact have some problems.
This will be your most important tool. You'll need to keep a close eye on it if you do in fact keep the smic for any long period of time.

Hope that helps.

So for the fisrt 1500 miles of me not beating it AT ALL, it should be fine correct? Cuz i understand i got pretty good supporting mods for my evo3 and ill be setting the boost to about 12psi until i break it in to 1500 miles or so, when i get to that point i will have the cash for the FMIC.

This seems like a safe course then?

it's perfectly safe, you don't NEED a FMIC. you could be beating the $h!t out of it (w/ the right tune) and the only thing that would happen is that everytime you WOT your car, the pull would be a bit slower. this is because your sidemount will heat up. so start saving $. :thumb:

DOPEEEEEEEEEEE. Thx guys. i was worried i needed more than that pos IC cuz i got mass mods and a small IC  .. But cool ill keep it for the first 1500 beat in period and then upgrade. APPRECIATE IT! :thumb:

SHIT guys one more question not even related to FMIC... you think:

660 injectors
manual boost controller
greddy type s bov
2.5 catback
injen intake
190 fuel pump
act 2100
dsmlink
upper/lower hard ic piping
hks turbo timer
o2 dump
stock 6bolt block with 0 miles

will be ight for a evo3 turbo evo 3 exhaust mani evo 3 o2?

I dont wanna blow anything but i need a turbo upgrade and for 900$ and for these 3 items, seems good as hell. Plus its a huge upgrade from a 14b..

You think im alright? Sorry to change topic jus need a quick heads up before i put the order through.

Just pay close attention to your knock count. If it starts to heatsoak it will go up significantly. As long as you provide enough fuel, which you should have no problem doing, you will be alright. I would suggest finding someone that know's about the DSMLink and having them tune it right for you. With a good tune and as long as you are running a heatshield and whatnot you shouldn't heatsoak it to bad. Just watch the DSMLink closely but you should be perfectly fine.

Dope. The guy is stripping my aftermarket parts from my cracked 6bolt, and throwing in the new 6bolt and adding all the previous aftermarket. Once the blocks built hes sending it to his friend who strictly tunes high performance cars. Guys got a dyno etc. Also was told hes very good with dsmlink.

Appreciate the heads up. :thumb:

unless you're getting a honey of a deal on the 2100, get a 2600- I honestly don't see the purpose of the weaker clutch unless it's RIDICULOUSLY cheap. A used 2600 PP & a new disc aren't very much, if you're ballin' on a budget.

Run low boost until you get a FMIC as you don't have the cooling capacity, but with DSMLink you should stay out of the danger zone pretty easily. I would definitely look at the kinetic kit though. Good quality, huge core, and a pretty decent price.

dope dope. I just wanted to make sure id be alright. that small intercooler worries me.. :notgood:

h8 to go against all these guys but if u r boosting alot i think u definatelty need a fmic. your air must be dangerously hot u no. People dont just put them on for looks :| LOL

Na man once i get my 6bolt thrown in with the new turbo , exhaus man, o2 im gonna keep the boost down to 10 psi for the first 1500 miles until the motors broken in.

then when im rdy to crank up the boost to like 18-20psi ill throw on the FMIC.

Sound a lil better? :thumb:
