nos bottle for the intercooler. got a second bottle on the way, but not for the intercooler

yeah. but im not sure what im gnna do yet though. i already have the safc, and i have a maf-t. but im not sure if i wunna use the maf translator

If you're going to go to a 2G or Evo VIII MAF you don't need it - personally, I'd skip over the SAFC entirely and do either DSMLink or Jackal. For the size of the turbos you are talking about above, the SAFC is not going to do the job. You will overrun 650cc injectors easily with those turbo sizes - 650cc is the biggest you can go with a SAFC. So are you going meth+water AND N2O injection with this thing?

im doing meth+nitro(stuff they use in gas remote control cars), intercooler spray, and i think probably just a 35 shot to help spool the turbo. as for tuning and shit, what is that little black apexi box with all the knobs on it called? i have such a bad memory.

nah its kinda ols school but theyre great. if i remember right, its to help adjust your a/f ratio. but anyways, i wunna do something that makes it to where i dnt need any kind of maf. so a gm maf translator is outta the question. my buddy did it on his buit 1g somehow and i wnt to know. but i cant ask him seeing as how hes in iraq for the next 7 months

If you don't want a MAF, then you're either going to be going MAF Pro Translator w/ speed density, Jackal, or DSMLink when they get speed density finished. I'm going speed density on my current build as well.

i'd say go with dsmlink, if you use the gm maf you dont need the translater anymore just has the cable for it. i have a 2g mas, about to buy a evo mas and i also have a 3.5" gm maf im not sure what ill end up running on the car, most likely a evo mas

650cc is the biggest you can go with a SAFC.

If you stack piggybacks like running a maft and an afc, you extend their range of adjustment. I ran 1000s on that setup in my car with minimal issues. At some point your timing map might not be what you want, but there are some ways around that too. Ill be trying to run 1650s on e85 on the same setup this year before i upgrade to something else just to see if i can do it.

Is this what you were thinking of? HKS VPC?
Or where you thinking of the original AFC that had like 5 knobs, IIRC?

yes. the vpc is what i was thinking of. what exactly does it do? i have a second car at home that im just makin a lil power with. and i dnt know if i like dsm link. my buddy has the v3 and it is very confusing. im not a tuning guru or anything of the sort by any means, and i have a guy that does it all for me. but i would still like something that even i can mess around with.

You said you have disposable money for the build, right? Then why not go with the full on engine management instead of the safc? Hell, when I only had 550cc injectors on my engine, the safc was not nearly as effective as DSMLink. As soon as I upgraded, there was a noticeable difference in power. This also allows you a multitude of tuning options, as well as NOT using the MAF translator (ECMTuning has the GM MAF adapter cable ;) ). I am just barely scratching the surface of ECU tuning, but if you are trying for that much power, wouldn't it be wiser to have that much more control over your engine?

oh yes. i totally forgot about full stand alone. but what other options are there? i want to know about every tuning option out there.

get link and a chipped ecu. if ya reaallly want to tune the car have fun with aem ems. =)

It was one of if not the first speed density options available for us back in the day. It had alot of draw backs and most of the time was ran with something else to fine tune. Its kind of a crude and outdated setup compared to current tuning options, IMHO. They are also getting hard to find since they have been discontinued for a while now.

If you thought link was confusing then you are probably not ready for a stand-alone.

alright, so v3 dsm link and a chipped and socketed ecu it is then? and then even i (not a so bright person with electronics at all kind of person LOL) could mess with it and eventually get ahang of it then correct?

BTW i would never want to port anything on intake side of the head by hand any variance in airflow between ports will cause issues when tunning. say one port flows 3.5% more air than another port, well that cylinder needs 3.5% more fuel to maintain the same AFR.

I am not trying to be a jerk, but what makes the intake side so special? What goes in, must come out. The amount that the exhaust port and manifold are just as important as the intake side of the motor.

I am surprised no one has thought about the rod bolts for this 6 bolt and the turbo he plans on running. I am not sure that the stock motor would like reving where the gt40 and gt42 love to make power. You aren't going to see any boost till ~6000rpms with the gt42 and if you want the motor to last you might get a 2500rpm powerband.

yes. i just watched my buddys talon use both of them and i didnt like either one and how slow spooling they are. so my turbo plans are going to change. im not sure what im going to run yet, but we will think of something.

If you don't want such a high spooling turbo, you should do some more research here, as well as vendor's sites. There is alot of spoolup information to be had out there, you just have to figure out what you want, high power, fast spoolup, or something nice and in between like a 20g or 50 trim. I was using a (equivalent) 20g wheel in a 16g housing, and i was able to get 20psi by about 3500rpm, which is great for daily driving, or when you need to stomp on the gas and dust someone.

if i were you i would stick it out with link. it is actually very easy to use and there is TONS of support for it. AEM EMS would definitely be a bit too much for you. So, now that we got that out of the way...

You have your eyes set on a different turbo.. What kinda power goals do you want to reach?
