head build looking for opinions.

Ok guys i have a spare 6 bolt head sitting here that has some bent valves so i decided im gonna send it out and get it built. Looking for some opinions on what im gonna use. So far this is what im thinking.

manley dual valve springs and retainers

manley race series valves. +1

ferrea guides and seals

arp head studs

kelford 272 cams

tomei cam gears

3g lifters

Still a debate on if i wanna go with manley springs and retainers.

Personally, I would go with Kiggly springs and retainers, although that is just a matter of opinion. If you are building for something in the 30+ psi range you should go with L19 (A1) studs rather than the generic ARPs.

As for the valves, you may want to consider these. These are very nice SS valves for much less $$$ than several other brands, and I don't know of anyone having any issues with them. (And Ted is a reputable guy that is easy to get hold of).

I would also suggest you send the head to our very own BogusSVO for all the machine work, if you haven't considered it.

Sounds like a good build to me. I personally do not have experience with BogusSVO, but heard great things about him. I do have personal experience with SIM (Strictly Import Motorsports), and have nothing but great things about their head jobs (hehe sounds dirty).

To start the Manley Dual valve springs will not do what is needed if you keep the Kelford 272 cams, the ramp rates are just to agressive.

You will need the matching Kelford springs or the Kiggley Beehives or Ferrea Beehives.

The EngnBldr valves will be a great choice, I have installed quite a few of them, The 4g among others, never an issue
Also if you go with the EngnBldr Valves, he carries the bronze guides too.

The main thing to keep in mind is the machine work, and who dose it.
Alot of machine shops are not equiped with newer equipment, and when installing a 1mm OS valve, will not unshroud the valve, or open up the throat of the valve seat, if this is not done, then you will still flow like a stock valve, the throat will become the choke point in the head.

Talk with JAM and see how you like them.

If you go local, make sure they understand DSM heads and will put the time you pay for into it.

Thanks for all the responses guys. The head will not be done local it will be shipped somewhere. Ill have to look into the kiggley springs and retainers and the EngnBldr valves. Thanks for the links ill have to do some reading up on some stuff.
