I'm going back an forth between stock rebuilding my car, or "Building" my car. I am just wondering the "community's personal views" on 4G63T modifications.

For example:
1) Bore size
a) I've heard .20 over good idea for a stock rebuild.
b) .40 over if you are doing some bigger modifications.
c) .60 over for higher modifications, but bigger risk for blowing water jackets.

2) Camshaft - 272/272, 274/274, 280/280

3) Crankshaft - I'm not very familiar with stroke an oem

4)Injectors

Basicly the major components of giving a 4G63T, a little hop in it's step.

Also does anyone have a good sounding exhaust recommendations that still allows the car breath well? Not no fart can.

I would love to hear your guy's an gal's views on this. An in case my cars information isn't on my profile I drive a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX AWD with a heavy oil leak LOL.

Here is upgrade path. Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners You can also look here at peoples horsepower and find the range u want and see what mods they have in there profile. DSM Dyno Challenge - Highest Horsepower Don't think to hard its not rocket science LOL. First measure the cylider walls and see what boring is needed no .40 .60 nono thast retarded LOL. Most best thing is going .20 over so u can proper ring gap on the pistons. Best wishes on your build.
 
I typed up a big long page and said.... "WTF am I doing". Ok, i wont even start with the bore size=this or that stuff. Know this: If it needs to go to .060 get another block. If you cant? Throw in some dirt cheap used pistons cause she isnt gonna stick around.

You have a 99 gsx. Please, for the love of dsm god, take care of her. By that I mean, READ everything you can. Take it to a known machinist. Not a great chevy guy, but a great 4g63 or evo guy. Best would be to call JAM and get a package price from them. Or Bogussvo on here. Hes a library of info. And an excellent machinist

Bore has nothing to do with power or mods, you want to go as small as possible. You won't gain any worthwhile amount of displacement and you'll just weaken the cylinder walls.

2) Camshaft - 272/272, 274/274, 280/280

This depends on your mods and goals. Camshaft decision is based on a number of things including engine size, turbo size, RPM range, etc. For a mostly stock car, stick with stock cams.

3) Crankshaft - I'm not very familiar with stroke an oem

With the 4g63, factory cranks are king. You won't find a stronger aftermarket crankshaft. If you want to stroke the engine say goodbye to OEM. You'll need aftermarket forged pistons/rods bare minimum.

4)Injectors

This is also completely dependent upon your power goals. You'll need some kind of fuel management system, datalogger, and a few other fuel mods along with larger injectors.

There's only 1 way to get more power from a 4g63: More airflow. With stroking out of the equation, that means more turbo, more fuel, and all the necessary mods to support it all. I would suggest looking over the upgrade paths to get a general idea of where your going. For rebuilding the block, I would suggest finding an experienced machinist and take every piece of the rotating assembly to them for inspection and machining.

WORD. Start with goals. What power level are you trying to reach? Once you do that we can help you along the way to your goal.

If you are a stock rod, going 400hp or less, you can go .040

Now if an H beam rod and going over 400hp , then keep it at .020

as everyone else has said. you must have goals. 264 cams may be enough for want you want to do. maybe not. you can have a XX sec 1/4mi goal, or a HP goal. both are good starting points. You always want the smallest turbo that will reach your goal. This gives you the least amount of lag and still reach your goal. Injectors are the same way. Some say go big early, but some big injectors are hard to tune on pump gas and unnecessary for some people's goals. come up with a HP goal then you can go down the list of parts that you'll need to reach that goal. The link clipto posted is a perfect description of what is needed to reach 300HP, 400HP.

Thanks for all of your guys opinions an views. I'll keep them in mind for the build to come. Unfortunately I ran into transmission problems the last 2 days. If any of you guys are good with transmissions, inbox me because I could use some help figuring out whats wrong. Also! does anyone know what gear a 99 GSX is suppose to be in to check the transmission level? Also good Transmission Rebuild Kits?
