Hardest AWD launch ever?

I have my parking pass for school wedged in the bottom of my front windshield.

One time at the track I launched so hard it came flying back and hit me right in the face...kinda stunned my for a sec but I still nailed 2nd :thumb:

Nasty launches eh... I've only been in a gsx once and it was almost stock...not impressed at all.

However I have had some nasty launches with my car :D

Some of them would be launching away while rolling at 45mph...... clutch in....rev rev rev when it hits around 6500 I dump the clutch and floor it..... spins all the way to redline. Not really a launch but I thought it was pretty nasty (in a good way)....

About the neck hurting thing I have never experienced it until I got my 50 trim. Untuned, on the highway I drop it down to 3rd the G's I feel are scary..... the front lifts up and I feel my head getting pulled back.... I was a little out of breath and had a stiff neck right after that.

i was going about 2 mph once and i pushed in my clutch, revved it to 6k and dumped the bi***....it stuck me sideways a little and about made me and the two guys with me piss our selves.. :thumb:

haha... i used to have my license plate like that and i nailed the gas one night and it landed in the backseat.. for fear of my passengers life i never put it back and the plate hangs on my wall now

The GT35r powered car here lauches hard enough it pulls the front wheel slightly off the ground, well that was until it got chains added to the suspension to help hold it down. That same car also launched hard enough one night the tag fell off. ANd by fell off i mean the plugs in the back the screws for the tag go through pulled out.

Chains? Hows that work?

I lived in Wilmington before I moved to Winston, are you originally from there?

Went to the really small track in So IL and most the imports that show up there are really really slow. Even the DSMs. Hell back when I had my FWD I had the fastest DSM to roll through there and it was A/T. NEway back to my story. I pull up to the staging lanes and the guy asks me "Is it quick?". I said it's not bad. He said I bet you can't spin all four tires. So I took him up on his bet. Roasted all four all the way through the burnout box and damn near took it sideways :) Then I laid down an [email protected]

Needless to say I won that bet :D

somehow i don't believe that.. well i'll believe the front wheels off the ground thing if it was on some retreads or street slicks.. but here we got guys putting down 600 and not picking up the front, so....

but honestly, AWD doesn't launch that hard... it hooks on the street, but at the track, a v8 on good tire will outlaunch an AWD all night long with room to spare, slick on a v8 will even outlaunch AWD on the street if the road is clean

About two weeks ago I got a ride in TSIAWD's 95 Talon. This car is totally loaded. He has built a 1G motor and put it in. Running a 50 trim, Dsmlink, Tial External Wastegate, FMIC, Fluidyne Alum Radiator..... Lot's of internal stuff done too. anyway he hadn't gotten it completly tuned yet. We did two launches and oh my god. I was screamin' like a little girl. I just kept building boost and we kept getting faster. I have never had that type of experience. Can't wait to ride in it when he gets it completely tuned.

Ahhhhh yes... Matts "go fast car" as my sister would call it. That has to be one of the best feelings in the world to ride in that.. It puts my car to shame sooo bad.. After riding in that two or three weeks ago we all went back into my car. i honestly couldn't even feel the boost..*shakes head in embarassment*

I love your car.

Anyway, they launch a helluva lot harder than a FWD dont they? Yep. Plus, V8 street launches arent exactly famous for traction.

street tires it's no contest.. AWD > *

that's why i said RWD on a slick.... fortunately for us, a lot of them don't bother with slicks too often :thumb:

1.6-1.7s are pretty sick launches comparitively to street tire cars.. but my point was that those RWD guys on slicks will cut ~1.5s.. now that's movin.. these guys were talking about AWD launches like they were the most incredible thing since sliced bread... jsut trying to bring some reality back to this thread.. if your car falls apart "beacause the AWD launch was so hard yo" then your car is probably a pile of crap.

that said, i love my AWD.. there's a spot near me a lot of guys race at, where there happens to be a little bit of sand in the road.. it's not enough to really notice, and the 2WD guys don't realize the disadvantage because they equally spin. then my evil ass comes out there and whips the hell out of them all.. good stuff :thumb:

also i used to have a pait of fuzzy dice... when i launched they would go completely horizontal and yank the mirror hard enough i had to re-adjust it afterwards

Damn skippy, which is why AWD cars are legendary, well to me anyway. Especially since I dont have a RWD or an AWD.

My bad, I cant help it! :D

ive had some hard launches

-windshield wipers on
-car wheelhopping 6 inches off the ground with my foot unable to stay planted on the gas
-diff exploding and putting a hole in my bell housing

My favorite hard launch was when my wife (then pregnant about 3-4 months) and I went to go visit my folks for thanksgiving 2002. We went to the after thanksgiving sale in my Talon which I had not driven in almost 18 months. As a matter of fact i had not driven a stick in that long either.

The exit to the Walmart was one of those incline up to a ring road then back down like you some times see at malls in hilly areas and such. Some pissant redneck kid pulled right up on me with his big 4x4 truck (about a foot off the bumper), I got a little nervious, and what was a 1.5 k start somehow turned into about a 5k drop launch. The front got light as we cleared the intersection and the ground dropped so I eased out of it. Mr 4x4 was trying to chase me so I just bailed.

My wife decided that she did not want to drive my car at that point in time. And still won't except on the highway. I had to apologize to her about 5 times for launching like that, and I stil get some grief about it to this day.

Guess the redneck kid did not like the fact that my black eagle was getting more attention than his 4x4 and my exhaust was deeper and better sounding? Probably thought I was some ricer with a 4 inch exhaust tip and no balls to back it up.

When I raced an RX7 about 2 months ago I had my cell phone on the visor, I always hang it there and when I launched it flew off and hit my head then fell behind the seat.
thats a good one

6500rpm studderbox dump with a centerforce dual friction.
23psi with c16 at the drag strip.

I spun all 4 off the line and didnt move doing so. 3.7 60ft As soon as my ass end started sliding towards the center (and I realised I wasnt moving) I hit 2nd and my center differential exploded.
According to the dsmlink I made 502.3 ft/lbs of torque right before the diff gave up.

And before I get called a dumbass, I was nervous didnt mean too.
And damn these helmets and lack of headroom in dsms. :D
I bought a welded center diff the next day for both cars.

A friend of mine with a 93awd and act2600 regularly dumps his off the rev limiter and pulls 1.5 60ft's. There is nothing like the sound of a wastegate dumping (shooting blue flames) bouncing off the rev limiter

Why would you dump the car at 6500 Seriously?

That does seem a bit high. He said he blew the center diff though. At the end, his friend honda launching the '93, thats crazy. You only need, what, 4.5k rpms for a good awd launch?

I run 1.7 60fts all day on a 4500 launch without a studderbox

I am not going to say anything about FWD launching, but I agree alot of AWDers do think AWD is the best thing since sliced bread. It is nice, but I have seen some Z06's on slicks hit 1.5 60fts. AWD will outlaunch a FWD, but factor in a LSD and some good slicks, some suspension work (look at project goodwill he is cutting 1.7 60fts)FWD will launch preety good.

well yeah, basically it just costs less to launch with awd :p
