every now and again up shifting into 3rd the tranny acts like it wants to grind. almost like the clutch isnt engaged all the way. but this is only on occasion not everytime. any ideas on what it is? shifter linkage, tranny itself, gears?

any ideas?

thanks!

It wouldn't be your trans going out completely, like stated above, but a syncro may be getting a little tired. Replacing a syncro isn't a huge deal and you can do the work yourself if you have the capability to put your mind to it.

With it being one single gear your having problems with, I'd say your hydro. system is probably fine, and your either dealing with a tired syncro, a bent or miss adjusted shift cable, a tweaked shift fork, or a broken shifter assembly. Try looking at the easiest first and work your way down to the syncro. Also check clutch adjustment and it would t hurt to check your slave and master.

You can do the syncro test. Start the car up, and without pressing the clutch in, slowly try and put it into each gear. It shouldnt go into any gear, but if it grinds on the gear then the syncro is worn. Or atleast this is what I was told.
