Made a few of 'em in Europe. I believe they were n/t's though.

yes you would loose some structural, especially without an upper support.
But nothing that some 1X2 box tube cross braces and some 1.5" 6 Pt cage could not easily fix...

I know to each his/her own. but, if I ever saw that driving around anywhere I'd slap a for sale sign on my car and drive special ed school bus on 20s. I'm sorry thats fugly. :notgood:

the second is ugly but i dont think they ever sold them. i would love to have the black one. they did sell them in europe i dont know if they were turbo or not. either way they are hot as hell

I dunno, I kinda dig the roadster look of the 2nd pic (minus the ugly-assed painted hubcaps though).

gotta love those pix....the other dsm's that could've been...
btw, there's at least one targa converted 2g somewhere on the net...saw it on google

Wow, that 2nd pic, I remember that. I used to have a subscription to Automobile magazine when I was a kid in the late 80's and I remember seeing that in there. I think I still have all my mags in my garage too. I'll have to look one of these days.

Ah, yes. A new springtime us upon us, and the newbs are "finding" the breakthroughs of last decade.
The red one appeared in the first article about the 1G.

So, we'd like to thank you for playing, but we're sad to inform you that you do not win the lovely dinette set we'd picked out just for you, and you will not be enjoying a glorious, two-week stay in tsunami-ravaged Sumatra.

Searching for the Search button, workin' on mysteries without any clues.

man... attitudes...

Oh, nevermind just one reply has it...

Maybe some of the people here NEVER KNEW THEY WERE MADE, so why would they search for it...
Hell I did not know they were made. So I never had the inkling to search for it.
I would like to have either one... Both very rare (non existant US) 1G Targa/convert.
Hell I do not even care if either was turbo or not, that is what motor swaps are for...

I saw a couple 1g Targas while I was in germany. I was gonna buy one. Decided it wan't worth the hassle to have it imported. The red at the top was a concept model.

However I never heard of the 1g Convertible being made in germany until today. Just goes to show you never everything.

Yet again you come through with another smart-ass comeback LOL.

Hes right though. Anyone want to know how to do this just look for Dre and talk to him.

To be as old as they are I think they both have potential.

My fault? It won't happen again sir.

So uhm. I'm seriously considering looking into customizing my 90 so the top can come off. It would require a little machining and some custom window and framing work. I sorta have a rough idea, and I think it would be cool and pretty unique, considering I have never once seen a topless 1G. What do you guys think?

Is this going to be a permanent convertable 1G, or hardtop that you can put on and take off, which in my opinion would be a lot harder because of seals and what not.. That sounds like a lot of work and could possibly look pretty cool at the end. First I would ask someone to photoshop for you to get a little preview of what it might look like, to give you a better idea if you want to do this or not. Personally, I say not to do it, but its your car, you can do what ever you want with it :thumb: . Good luck.

i've seen a picture of a conv 1g befor it looked like it was deff somthing from japan and japan only also i'm pretty sure they did make them over there and or in europe. i'll try to find the pic but dont quote me on it i could be wrong. anyway i think it would be a little less work just doing a targa top, ## going to weakin the whole car a sh*t ton if you start cuttin sh*t... u might want to look into that direction rather than takin the whole top off.

I think a targa top is what I'm going for. I would just be making the very very top part removable. I'd have to resupport the windshield. But the back hatch will not be removed, so it will look rather like a newer Supra when the top is removed, and opposed to... say... a new GS-T. I think it would look pretty sweet.
