i pulled my 4g i have apart. and i found this. its on the rear main. its a grove and i can feel it.

Hard to say from your picture, but you can get a repair sleeve ring that slips over the end and creates a new surface. I don't know for the life of me where I saw it, but a quick search will probably bring it up. I also don't know how well it works, and personally don't like the idea of trying to seal an irregular surface with a sleeve that doesn't fill in the micro gap on the underside. But I maybe wrong.
 
You can get a repair sleeve, but i've never had a problem seating the rear main to a different area of the crank.

I seated my rear main seal at a different position on the crank and haven't had a single problem since it was replaced.
