I realize this question is probably a little beneath you guys, but this seemed like the most appropriate forum for it.
I purchased a GP Sorensen (Model# KS1) replacement Knock Sensor and I'm having trouble determining what to do with the two wires coming from the OEM knock sensor harness. You see, the sensor I bought didn't come with any wires attached.
Instead, it has a single threaded post on the end. So, after cutting the end off of the old sensor, I see that there are two wires to contend with (I thought there was only one red wire). On the outside of the red wires' insulation is the second bare stranded wire, covered only by something like heat shrink tubing.
When I first bought the thing I figured I would just have to solder on a terminal onto the red wire and screw it onto the threaded post with a nut (also not included with the new sensor). Now this second wire has me a bit confused.
Has anyone used one of these sensors before? If so, how did you wire it?
Since I'm sure someone will ask, the reasons that I purchased this sensor instead of an OEM sensor are:
1.) It was cheap, and I'm not working right now.
2.) I figured that the threaded post would allow me to install the sensor without the wire attached. This would mean I could use a socket to install it in such cramped quarters without going through the hassle of removing the battery and starter.
What can I say? I'm poor AND lazy.
