Hey guys, newbie. Ive been reading a lot and cant really come across this answer. Can anybody tell me why a lot of people use the GM maf and maf-t?? Whats the difference between that and stock? Also the DSM link. How is that setup and how does it work?? I see a lot of people using a V3 link. Thanks

thats really cool. technollogy is amazing these days. Is it hard to do it with the laptop?? Ive heard a lot of people doing it but it seems like a very complicated thing to do, especially not being an expert on computers or electronics

Tuning isnt hard just takes some basic knowledge, my car has run without a tune, but now i have the tools to do it, so ill be doing more this summer.

Also, its way cheaper than doing stand alone and in some instances, ECU flashing. DSM's are blessed with aftermarket support and these is one of them for the budget minded. Personally, I've been using the 1st gen MAF-T with the GM MAF since it 1st came out and have never had any problems so far. That and the fact that I live in a smog restricted state and its easy for me to go back to stock anytime. Either way, its just a matter of personal interest whether you go for a MAF-T or an ECMlink.

sooo, you can use the ecm link and gm maf/maf-t at the same time?

Yes. That's what i run and it works really well.

Don't get anything confused, the MAFT is not an actual tuning tool. If you plan on doing any real tuning, you will need software ( i recommend ECMLink) in addition to the GM Maf and translator.

The GM maf allows you to accurately read airflow greater than what the stock setup can read/flow. The Maf-t (translator) then converts the signal from the GM maf to one that can be read by the Mitsu computer.

You use DSMlink (ECMlink, same thing) to calibrate the setup, and then you're ready to rock.

Here is the info on calibration:
