So I'm shopping for gauges and I see a bunch of very similar gauges under several different names...

Glowshift Black 7 Color Gauge Series

Prosport Prosport Gauges Peak Hold Warning Gauges-52mm Peak recall gauges, Boost, EGT, Oil Pressure, Water temp & More

Defi... you all know them.

Now I run VDO gauges in my other cars and kinda like features of some of these new gauges... Given that feature-wise the prosports, for example, are about the same as Defi the question then becomes are they accurate?

Anyone have experience with any of the above? Are these black face gauges clearly visible in bright sunlight? I also hear some are a bit laggy... All opinions are welcome!

Who cares how much boost your running. Tune the car and leave it alone. Aftermarket oil pressure gauge is waste of money because by the time you realize what is going on and if you are already in the middle of a pull its gonna be wayyyy to late to realize you do not have any oil pressure. Think before YOU POST. Buy quality parts and you do not worry about failure!!

So your saying that you dont care if you can see your boost? What if you start to creep running dangerously lean? Aftermarket oil pressure gauges are a waste of money? Do you think that maybe they would let you know of a problem before you go into a pull? Maybe they want to know the oil pressure isnt too high to be blowing seals out? Also I dont know about you,but I certainly dont want to be driving around with a laptop open 24/7. If you think that you tune it and your done your wrong, there are many problems that can occur even when your tuned.

I have been happy with defi, easy install, accurate, and well worth the money.

I have a prosport boost gauge and I like it a lot. It is easy to see during the day (white) and when i turn my lights on at night it switches to amber which blends well with stock lights. It is accurate as far as i know and only cost like $30 or something.

That works great until you get a boost leak, the weather changes, or you creep.

Maybe, maybe not. I'd rather have it there for the insurance.

Quatily parts include guality gauges. :thumb:

Some where there is a thread about guages and if I remember correctly the overwhelming majority agreed that glowshift was inaccurate. Next came prosport gauges. And defi came up as being top out of the listing. Now gauges like greddy, APEXi, blitz, and so on obviously would be ranked high along with the price you pay for them. My personal setup is prosport! My prosport boost gauge is as accurate as my HKS EVC gauge and controller is. As far as my other gauges I haven't had any problems with them either. It basically comes down to what you want and how much you want to spend. Either way you will get to install them yourself unless you pay a shop to do it. The prosports are pretty simple if you can follow directions and know how to work with wires.
Happy hunting for the gauges that suit you and your needs.

I had glowshift they were ok, gauges, i now have prosport gauges, and ill stick with those, they have some nicer ones, to add the product line.

i run glowshift boost/oil pressure/oil temp/water temp/EGT, and an aem uego in my car with no problems i really like the ability to change the color of the glowshift ones also and instalation was very easy

I hope you remote mounted the oil pressure sensor. I've killed 2 with because of vibrations.

It's interesting that you say this... you are not the first.

I have been running VDO 0-10 Bar (0-150 PSI) senders and gauges on most all of my street cars and have had them installed on several street and track cars I've worked on. They have always been mounted either to an oil port on the head or to a port off the oil filter housing and I've seen zero percent failure. I would not hesitate to guess that every A1 and A2 Volkswagen out there with a pressure gauge is setup in one of these two ways. The gauge and sender in my 16V Scirocco for example has to be 10 years old and I can tell ya it's seen some abuse. I'm just saying... maybe it's the senders and not the mounting point?

I am looking into a remote mount... doesn't hurt to be careful.

I used Glowshift gauges for 4 years and never had a problem with them at all.. They are fairly cheap compared to other brands, they work, they are reliable, and not to mention they are real good looking very stylish.. Get gauges you actually need tho and when it comes to widebands get the AEM definatly (never had a problem with it either). GLOWSHIFT all the way!! :thumb:

Considering the only time my car gets driven is during tuning/track time ya I have the laptop up and open :)

Maybe I forgot to mention that the only time my car sees movement is when laptop hooked up and racing/tuning.

Autometer. Always proved to be dead-on and durable.

BUT since someone said gauges are over rated, I guess this thread is null and void. LOL... and we wonder why so many of these cars suffer from catastrophic failures. what else is being skimped on? ;)

Considering I use GlowShift gauges on all my cars and NEVER not once experienced catastrophic failure on any of them. I am going to say stop assuming things.

I think she was referring to this guys post:

Gauges are way overrated. LC-1 wideband logged via dsmlink along with an aem 5 bar map sensor logged via dsmlink. What else could you possibly need ? 1 less reason for someone to come along and break the window due to seeing fancy gauges on the interior.

Im with Spawnedx^^ These gauges ROCK!! Dont assume everything at a reasonable price is poop!! I took the risk when I was building my car in 2007 to try them out and if they failed I would try something else.. They been perfect ever since.. Going to buy some for my new vehicle soon..

Prosports are good. Relatively inexpensive. Look good too. Someone mentioned problems with wiring them, I never really had any problems with wiring them to show the color I wanted.

My opinion? Auto Meter. I know it's not on your list but they are the only gauges I use (except for my AEM wideband). Look at just about any race car on any race series, what gauges are they going to be using? Auto Meter. Me too!

Hope this helps!

MMM I used to think the same thing until I had a cyberdyne digital gauge on a car with the same type autometer and found the autometer to be insanely inaccurate. I've also had several autometer gauges on various projects spontaneously fail which has me looking elsewhere for better gauges. I hate paying $200+/gauge for stepper motor gauges but they seem to be the most accurate.

haha no but i get that alot, (because of the name) just like the different colors LOL , and i got the name in middle school (bunch of girls thought it was funny) and now it haunts me

Yeah in the future dont trust that girls have your best interests in mind when giving you nicknames unless its biggins or something:D BTW what's a "stover"

I don't think anyone mentioned it, but I would recommend staying away from the gauges with the dark lenses. I know a lot of Glow-Shift gauges come with lenses like this. They are almost impossible to see without the back light on.

I received my glowshift boost guage, and just looking at the box, the gauge was reading off (good bit under 0). Had another one sent out and it looked ok.

Installed it and it worked okay for a little while, but slowly, it also started reading under 0, At this time, its sitting on the building on the shelf at 5 vac, worthless. Meanwhile, my 5 year old cheap VDO is perfect.
