Gauge for temps before & after IC?

Yeah I know about the factory one just wanted to know what was going on in the IC, when to judge when heat soak was taking affect, etc. etc.......
What effects my water injection system was having, and maybe adding and IC sprayer. I thought maybe someone made a decent system with screw in style probes and a digital readout.

I was thinking about an air temp gauge with probe inserted into my intake pipe, to see what setups i mock up makes the lowest air temp into my intake. I came up with a digital gauge from www.intellitronix.com/streetdig2.html which seems nice, but am leaning more towars the cheaper radio shack one. I want to mock up some sort of cold air/ram air setup for a 1G NT.

I would like to know how good a job my IC is doing. I did a search and saw a gauge/dual sensor set-up that gave the before and after air temps, very expensive. Tried to find it but can't. Wasn't an Autometer.
What's available to AT least check the air temp entering the intake manifold? Anyone know of the before and after gauge/sensors? Thanks, mark

It is pretty nice. It tells you both the temperature before and anfter the IC in one unit. What I'm more interested in is after the IC. It's what is actually going into my motor. I'm sure you can get a kit where it measures one spot with a nice black gauge for cheaper then $300US.

well the whole point of it is to see how efficent our IC is... and if you need a bigger one :)

I stole a temperature probe and LCD screen of my computer that i built, and stuck the probe in the fins in the I/C toward the back. Its super responsive, if Im cruising in 2nd itll read around 80F or whatever the ambient temp is, and if I step on it itll shoot up to as high as 120 sometimes, but usually 100 or so. I also made an I/C sprayer from the windshield nozzles, and hitting the I/C with a quick spray lowers the I/C temp a good 5-10 degrees pretty much instantly. So they do work after all! Keep in mind this is on the stock SMIC.

Just pull over and feel the inlet compared to the outlet on your intercooler. Don't buy an expensive gauge for something non-critical.

Yeah it would be nice to have 2 readings but even the temp into the TB would be nice. $300. is steep. Must be a cheaper way. I read something about radio shack in the search, anybody? Mark

You could always buy a iat and snip your maf's iat wires, and solder your new iat into that.

use a 3/8 npt into your elbow.

WTF OMG Remember, any IAT above 84F and the ECU retards a degree or 2 of timing. The last thing you want to do is subject the IAT to higher temperatures...

I'm using the GM MAF in a blow thru position. Don't bellieve it gives intakke temps. Nothing I can read anyways. I've heard something about radio shack selling something. Mark

your stock mas has the AIT...... all mas's have AIT... thats how they work. you just have to be a electronics guru to wire a gauge to them.

I just checked the readouts my Scanmaster give and one is Air temperature. I will have to check it out. Since I have the MAF in the blow thru position it is only a foot from the Throttle body and if it truly gives the temp that would be just what I was looking for! Mark

EDIT - ^^^ He beat me to it...... Good find, Chris. I didnt know coolingmist offered it with dual sensors..... That's definitely the best bang for the buck. :thumb:

This is what I use:

(It's too bad - these were just on sale for $55 each for the past month)

I am also using the MAFT in blow-thru. It sends a constant signal of 80* F to the ECU no matter what. That can be read with a logger, but it does us no good, because it is not the actual temperature.

paul how well does it work and what are typical inlet temps for you? Mark
It works very well. The install was very easy and the gauge is quality built and looks very sleek. I typically read about 79-81* F while cruising or under full boost (22psi on a 50-trim and a SBR FMIC). If I sit and idle for a minute or two after driving, it can get to 85-86* F. Here's some pics of where I mounted the sensor (sensor is on the left).

Looks good! What would be the ambient temp when you have the intake charge around 80*F? I ordered the dual sensor kit for $90.90 plus shipping. Curious to see how well my FMIC is doing! mark
