Well sooner than expected, the engine has been machined!!!

Rob's Machine Shop out in Hayward California pulled a fast one for me, having the block done in a little over 5 days. (two of which were weekend) Very satified with their work.

My crank only needed a polish, which was nice! :thumb:

Block and head were both decked for the Cometic HG.

Had it line honed with the girdle, bored with a torque plate, and the flux core prove everything was in working order! Even the head's valves were all seated properly already! I will lap them for good measure because I'm putting new springs in anyways, but this is all great great news!

Now for the part of this build I been waiting for about a year for....

THE ENGINE BUILD!!!

Details and pics soon....

Looks good and keep it updated. The crank however, it looks like there are still streaks on it. They don't seem to be scratches by any means, but I was under the impression they should be spotless after a micro-polish.

This was taken with my cell phone, they are by no means high quality. I can't feel any ridges on the crank with my fingernail, lets hope that is good enough.

I probably should have brought a friend who knows how to build engines with me to keep the machinest honest, but tbh, Rob's has been in business for years and years, I paid them well for their name... I'm sure its all gravy.

He did my friends STI stuff, hes a pretty straight up dude.

Good call on using a torque plate! Im glad some people understand how to truly bore and hone.

And i have a valve holder + compound to lap those valves for ya btw.

There were several shops around tracy area who would have loved to do my engine for about 150 bucks less than what rob charged me, but none of them had the torque plate. So once again I went the right path and bit the bullet.

You got a PM inc rennat

I never heard of that before. I'd imagine Kiggly wouldn't have gone through all the effort he did creating a trigger plate if buying a different front casing would have fixed it.

Any more info please PM or link me to a thread. Its kinda late now as I've already ordered all my parts, but I am open to new ideas for future builds.
