So im doing a full build on my 99 gst 7 bolt block. i just recently recieved my eagle crankshaft, eagle h-beam rods, wiseco pistons .20 over, balance shaft elim. kit, arp main bolts, crower 272/272 cams, crower valves and valvespring/retainers, revised lifters, and arp head studs. i am going to be sending it out to a local machine shop out here in las vegas to blueprint the motor and assemble it...just because i want it done right the first time with no problems.

i already have sitting in my closet an AEM fuel rail, aeromotive fpr, precision intercooler, AEM tru-boost gauge. AEM air/fuel (wideband) gauge, and an apexi safc2. i will also be ordering a walbro 255 fuel pump soon and i will be doing clutch upgrade before i put the motor back in(which i will probably need some advice on as well) :)... my goal for this build is to reach 400hp but the only problem for me is deciding on which turbo to go with and which fuel injector size to go with. that is where i need your help. i know the choice of the turbo will affect my injector size and also if i am going to need to go with the dsmlink and just throw out my safc2. it is my daily driver so i dont really want to get into the dsmlink just a turbo strong enough to get me to 400hp safely. i was going to go with the garrett gt30r but i am not sure if i will need to switch over to dsmlink and i know a 16g wont get me to 400hp.

so if you guys can help me out here that would be awesome. any advice is appreciated.... oh and also if you guys can let me know anything else that is needed to achieve this goal, like if i need any other parts or if im doing something wrong. thank you! :)

DSM FTW!

Man i think a 16g Big evo turbo would get you to 400hp, depends on how much boost you run and have the right supporting mods....I belive you can run a 16g with 550size injectors. You'll need a walbro pump, And J-pipe, and clutch wise you might want to go with the act 2100, and id get my flywheeel resurfaced personally while its out since your doin a rebuild. Correct me if im wrong anyone!

IMHO...

I think your looking at it wrong. With that build and parts list, I would get DSMLink (actually called ECMLink now) and some good larger injectors (I really like the FIC BlueMax 1150's).

Then you can start with an inexpensive E3 16G which will hit 400hp with good tuning (and is a proven FUN turbo), and when you want to upgrade to something bigger you'll already have the injectors and some experience with tuning ECMLink.

It's just silly to build a motor like that and not go with a true tuning solution.

I would deffinately go with the DSMlink.. (ECMlink) Just because it would be easier and safer to get to your hp goal then with the safc. I havent used the software myself, but I have had a friend show me some of his logs with it. He also explained that with the safc you dont have any control with timing ya know just mostly fuel. So you may run into problems with knock with the safc. The software looks extremely easy and straighforward to use. For "safe" sake I personally would go with DSMlink. I will be going with DSMlink with my project with pretty much is the same bottem end minus the .020 pistons as your running now and my goal is 400-450 to the wheels..

I would buy aGT35R, or a Holset HX-40/both in a Mitsu housing/... They would get you easily over 400 WHP mark with ease and relatively LOW boost/20 ish PSI..

Like Calan above said, get a 1150; 1200cc injectors, DSM link and you'll be ok.

One more thing, I would get a Bosch 044 pump and mount it in-tank and call it a day... I know the Wallbro is enough for your goals, but one day you decide to go bigger, you are covered. Plus if you start running E85 one day, you'll need bigger volume pump, depending on turbo, injectors, etc..... I know a few people who run Bosch 044 in-tank and make mid 600 isn WHP on E-85. That means, on gasoline alone it will go well over 700 in case if you need it.

i like the idea that ## using a 7 bolt. I was going to do the same but i couldnt pass up a deal on my 6 bolt. 272/272 is a pretty agressive cam choice for the street dont u think? May b im wrong but ive heard of ppl going 264 intake 272 ex for a nice idle and good driveability while still retaining the peromance aspect of the 272....jmo

I would also elect to go with ecmlink and some large injectors even 1600. I run 1000's with v2 on my car and it idles like a champ. So that route you wont have to worry about idle and with link you can also adjust your airflow at certain points to help idle those larger cams. With any machine work you do to the head and block you should look into some adjustable cam gears to get full potential out of your cams to get them degreed right. Other than that turbo wise you can go cheap with a rebuilt holset (can be had for like 350ish) like many others on here, or buy a Garrett/PTE and spend around 900ish to over a grand. So if moneys not an issue then you could go any route. A 50 trim will get you those #'s and like said before even a 16G could get you there.
