I need help figuring out this problem. My 97 Rs is sputtering cutting off and is not getting gas when i try to start it. While driving it bucks, hesitates, accerates really slow. I took it to a mechanic and he says he cleaned out my throttle body and put a new fuel filter on the car. When i went to pick the car up it turned over back fired and shutoff. Now it backfires all the time while driving. I called this guy back and asked him what the deal was and he said the fuel filter was clogged on top and the fuel pump was going bad and the windings from the fuel pump is what is clogging the fuel system up. Does this seem like a logical explanation? I used the search and couldnt find anything related. I forgot to to add that i replaced:

ECT
O2 sensor
Fuel filter
Spark pulgs
coil
thermostat

You fuel pump could definatly be going out. Your injectors could be clogged up as well. I would recommend cleaning your injectors since it's an easy fix. Then if you're still having the problem you might want to invest in a new fuel pump.
