Problems starting? fuel system.... fuel management? help!

i have a 99 eclipse gsx i have been working on for almost 2 years now and almost have it running. Im having a problem with the car starting. I tried posting in a different thread but since im new here it wouldnt let me post, so hopefully im in the right area. Anyways my eclipse has been having a really hard time starting up. We thought at first it was the starter.... when you turn the key sometimes it just clicks, but if you play with it for a while eventually you can here the engine wanting to fire up. Once it starts you have to keep the the rpms up to about 3k for a a few mins until the engine warms up and then its fine. But it does that every time you try and start it. My dad was working on it today and put a new starter in and said it took him 5 hours to get the car running. he said when you press on the gas the car hesitates to stay fired up. he was thinking it was something to do with the fuel sysytem or fuel management system? Anyone else have this problem? I have no idea what this could be so all help is appreciated! thanks alot!

you have a computer to read codes etc? sounds like it could be a temp sensor problem! but you'd have to know what the computer is seeing in order to check this.
