I just put in a new motor, did a wire tuck, and fired up the engine last weekend. It started and idled very nice. I drove it a about 100yards let off the gas and it died. Started it, put it back away, not really concerned. Next day it wont idle, barely runs. I was holding fuel pressure the day before. I notice after making it run for a little bit fuel pressure drops from 42-10 in about 30seconds.
First thought is gauge is dead, but its a couple months old.
Second thought, fuel pump is bad (return check valve or something).
So I cap off the return line prime the pump and peg the gauge. It holds for quite a while, but still only 5-10minutes. I think the previous owner installed some low quality line from the pump to filter to rail, so its probably in my best interstest to replace those.
New problem! yey. I pulled the pump to take a look at it, realize theirs 3 nuts of the 6 holding it on, 3 of the studs are broken off...in a row of course.
I read this tech article on repairing studs:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/256249-replacing-broken-fuel-pump-studs.html
I want to find 6 new studs to install, possibly larger than oem. I cant seem to find what the tech writer listed. Anyone know how much a new oem tank would be? A fuel cell or sumping this tank are not within the budget, I didnt plan for this one!
