Fuel pump O cap won't screw on...

I was having all the issues in the world just removing fuel pump with rusty fuel lines. Finally broke lines free, assembled fuel pump.

I placed the rubber grommet over the fuel tank ring, and kept trying to just screw the cap on and it doesn't seem to want to. Is there some sort of truck to screwing this cap on haha? I feel dumb.

Had the same problem wouldn't thread and popped off. Buy a new rubber seal and rub a little oil on it when installing.

Same thing, seems like it's popping off. The seal seems fine, sits pretty nice. Will try some oil or something tomorrow.

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure the fuel tank seal is on the inner lip of the mouth of the fuel tank and not on top of it or outside of it

Ya, it sits real nice on the inner part of the ring. The issue is the plastic ring won't thread correctly. Keeps popping off. It came off quite easily.

It's the rubber seal. The old seals sometimes are "loose" not fitting tight like it should and getting in the way of the threads. If you cant get it i'd just buy a new one. They're fairly cheap EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts

Still having issues. I cant even screw the cap on by itself without the whole fuel pump assy attached. I just tried threading the cap, and its a no go. I got it to thread once using a hammer, but I doubt I would need one?

Any other tips?

So the plastic sealing ring that threads onto the tank is stripped?
The thing you have to ise a hammer and flat head to remove?

The plastic ring yes. I am not sure if its stipped, its just being a pain in the ass! Like, its hard enough trying to screw it in solo, let alone with the pump assy attached. Seems like everytime its tight, I hammer it, and it slips off.

Anyone have a link to a new plastic ring? Been tryign to look for one, but no luck.

Yes, It's all stuff I have been trying. It just doesn't want to thread properly. Have spent 6+ hours alone on just this freakin cap
