Screw on the oil cap

Can I tighten the oil cap by screwing on the center of the oil cap screw as shown on the pic below?

I'm pretty sure you cannot. I am almost 100% that if you unscrew that you will just take the cap off of the threaded part. Try undoing it.

If its leaking the seal is prob missing - or really old

In that case I would suggest just getting a new one.

The nut on the other side is just holding the fingers on and should be staked. Leave it alone and replace the gasket like has been suggested.

From the raggedy look of that cap, it just might be time to pop the $6 at anyplace for a new one.
