the O ring where the pump connects to the sending unit inside the tank.

Buy a walbro install kit from like extremepsi or whatever vendor. I had to do the same thing. The walbro cap/oring/etc all fit on the stock pump too.

the little cap is also cracked. does that have anything to do with sealing? or would all my pressure loss problems go away with the new ring?

Definitely need the cap too. Mine was cracked when I bought my 1g (non running), and it wouldn't build enough pressure to start.
