Is there any reson desides convenience for mounting the FPR under the hood? I would like to mount it in the back by the fuel pump and fuel tank

Because the fuel pressure is read from the fuel rail where the fuel accumulates before feeding the injectors. Giving you the most persice fuel pressure reading. If you put it on the line coming from the fuel pump, readings will be low. Also inaccurate.
