fuel filter help

I did a search and only found info on 2gs. I want to change my fuel filter today, but from the looks of it, it seems like a real pain to do, so any info or tips would get great. Thanks, B

pull out the battery to give yourself more room, I can't remember the size of the nut but you have to put a box wrench on the bottom of the filter where the nut is, and use an extension and socket for the top nut. When messing with the bottom make sure you have it on the nut not the actual filter housing, oh and the clamp thats on there, leave it, it will help hold it in place, then just twist like hell and a 2nd set of hands makes it a bit easier.

Let the car sit for a while so there is no fuel pressure. I remove the gas cap first and then retighten it whenever doing anything fuel realted. I pile a bunch of rags underneath the filter as to not soak the engine compartment with gas. Break the bottom fitting loose first, make sure you use a LINE wrench 14mm, on some filter styles there is a place to put another wrench just above the fitting to hold the filter in case it spins. Then break the top fitting loose, I use a 1/2 inch drive ratchet with an extension I believe the banjo bolt is 17 mm. Next unbolt the filter from the bracket and remove it. When installing I start the bottom fitting first, leave it loose and loosly tighten the filter in the bracket. Next one banjo washer goes on the banjo bolt "top of the eye fiiting and one underneath", between the fitting and the filter itself. Tighten the filter in the bracket, next tighten the lower line, 14mm. Then tighten the top banjo bolt. Start the car and check for leaks.

Sounds like everyone is giving you good advice. I will mention You will want to un-bolt the charcoal canister and push it out of the way to get to one of the battery mount bracket bolts. You will have a wide open shot at the filter this way. As you can see from this picture that still has the bracket in place, if you take it out you will have alot better access.

you shoud also disconnect the fuel filter harness. It's located on the back of the fuel tank, then start the car and let it run until it dies. this way there is no fuel pressure in the lines and it won't shoot out once you take the eye bolt off.
