I noticed when I took my hub apart from the axle there was no rubber “cap” I was removing the assembly to place in a broken lug nut. This cap is crucial to not get dirt and grime between the hub assembly and axle shaft no?

Scared to throw it back together and cannot find a rubber cap period. Anyone suggestions would be amazing. I see the purchasable ones have a rubber piece. Wondering if it’s okay to throw back in without. Never had one when I removed it. This normal?

There never was one from factory. This is also a front hub, and you posted pictures of rear FWD hubs, different designs.

I appreciate that. Yeah I figured so. Weird I can’t find front hubs to buy. Dont need to if there isn’t a cap! Thank you (first time doing these I was shitting bricks)

Have you read through these?

From the FSM there are only the two oil seals.

I think these are still the part numbers for changing the front wheel bearings.
MB573309 OIL SEAL, FR WHEEL inner
MB303868 Wheel Bearing Snap Ring
MB303865 Front Wheel Bearing (1G DSM)
MB303875 OIL SEAL, FR WHEEL outer

Oh wow.. thank you so much, I spent so much time tryna find those but I guess u knew where to look lo. Thanks so much

It's not a "cap". It's a seal, to keep out dust, dirt, grease and such, and there are two of them on 1G front AWDs, one at the bottom of the hub shaft (in the first photo), under the outboard inner race, and one on the inner side of the knuckle, above the inboard inner race and snap ring.

You install them as per the above FSM instructions.

I'm actually about to do this today as I had to remove the old bearing because there was some play causing rubbing of the pads on the rotor. I'm using a wheel bearing kit as I don't have access to a shop press but it works much the same way. You can also hammer the parts in, just have to be careful.
