So I've had my AWD Talon for 3 years and I'm still questioning things(whats normal and whats not).
So I've noticed over the past few months that my front tires are pretty bald (evenly bald so not an alignment issue) but my rear tires have maybe 40% tread left whereas the fronts have maybe 15%. My question: Is this normal? I would think that an AWD car would wear tires at the same rate.

Don't know how much of a difference this make, but you have to take into account that the fronts do all the turning as well as driving the car...it does seem like too big a difference though

If you look in your car manual it will show you how to rotate your tires if you have an awd. The fronts WILL wear MORE compared to the rear because they drive AND turn. So +2 on what the others said. 3 months means nothing to me. How many miles in the 3 months did you put on the tires?

probably around 150 miles. Your right 3 months is nothing its been longer then that. I knew the front tires carried most of the weight and did more work (turning etc) but i didnt think the difference would be so great. I dont have the money for tires just yet so im going to rotate them and hopefully that will buy me more time.

sounds like an alignment is drastically needed, or at least checked .. got too much toe and the tires are literally being scuffed across the road... if with that low mileage...

Also with your percentage mention of front and back, you vehicle is in AWD all the time and the back is pushing the front which will also do the extra wear due to the slight difference in tire diameters.

5000k mile rotation on AWD's is a total mandatory thing, not just something to think about on the side as us with FWD vehicles.

You're gonna have to buy a full set of new tires down the road.

good luck-DSM

If you never rotated that sounds about right. It's why tire rotation is so important to getting even wear on your tires so they as long as possible as a set.

as many have said, the fronts typically wear faster because they have more weight over them as well as they do the steering,

but three months is awfully quick.

OK.....so the question is.....
how long have these tires been on the vehicle.
It clearly doesnt give a time these tires have been on the car. He stated he has owned the vehicle for 3 YEARS and has noticed them wearing unevenly in the past few months. How often have you rotated them? etc.

the tires have been on the car since before i owned it and the tire were rotated once a year. I only put 5k on a year for those 3 years and now that I'm making a lot more power than i was 3 years ago i realize how bald the tires are when my car steps out a little at WOT in second.

the tire wear is even on the fronts so i dont think its an alignment issue probably just tire rotation.
