Edmonton,
I have a 95 Eclipse GST that is dropped about 2 inches or so. I have Koni adjustable struts and intrax springs. I have 18" wheels with low profile tires. The tires have been on for about a year and the tread on the outside looked fine, but one day I decided to turn my tires to the side to give the rim a good scrub.. and I noticed that the inner part was of the tire was so worn down I could see the metal mesh in the tire OMG. I ran over to the other front tire.. and guess what... I quickly went to a tire shop and they told me I was about 30 seconds away from blowing a tire depending on conditions, so I got them replaced. I then asked what the cause of this was, and I was told it was due to camber and that I needed a camber kit. I wasnt ready to drop money on it, but I was in a hurry to get this problem resolved to prevent my new expensive tires from wearing out again. I stopped by my favorite DSM shop, he told me a camber kit was a good idea. I went online, others told me it was a good idea. I talked with a few other people that I know with lowered cars, and they all had camber kits. The price is fairly cheap, so I bought one and its going to be installed soon. The rear tires have even wear throughout and look fine and do not need to be replaced. The question I have is, will a camber kit prevent my tires from wearing on the inside, or is this caused by something else?

-When look at your car from the front, do the front tire look like this / \ ? if yes, your front tires have too much negative camber, will need the kit to correct it, if both front tire look straight l l, then the toe might be off, have the tire alignment check out, you'll have to do a wheel alignment after installing the kit.

With the front kit and the intercooler in the way its hard to get a good look, but I had someone take a look when the car was raised to change the tires and they told me that they were / \ and not | |, but the back ones are | | :thumb:

So you have no camber kit in the back??
Unless your specs are right on at the alignment shop you may wanna pick one up. There much cheaper then the front ones. Reason I say this is because usually our cars only need one in the rear unless you drop more then 1.5 inches. Since you need a front one I cant beleive you dont need a rear one since thats usually the first to go.
----god thats worded wierd,,,srry

It's dropped 2 inches, and I've heard what you're telling me as well although the rear tires appear to be straight, and arent worn at all(except for normal wear).... I'm getting the front kit tomorrow, and an alignment in a few days to follow, we'll see how it all goes!

wow that is weird i have my car dropped 3" last summer and my back tires were balled in a month and the front were fine then i bought a sprint camber kit off ebay for liek 125 bucks and it said front and back, went to a local shop and they said that the 4 were for the front only then i searched online and couldent find any so i went back and they said they could buy some and fabricate them a little bit, when it was all done i got the car back with slight rear neg- camber and the front was fine, and I got a bill for like 5 bills for puttin the front ones on and ordering fabing and installing the rear.... guess u gotta pay to play.....

Sucks when that happens, huh? I had the same problem man. You made a wise choice to buy the camber kit.

I'm just glad it didnt blow. With the kit being close to 1.5 inches to the ground in certain spots, it would have made a horrible mess, especially on the highway.. that could have been tragic. OMG

I had this happen to a friend with his Golf with a 2" drop. He was going through a set of front tires every 6 months and refused to buy a camber kit. He finally gave in and now his front tires last just as long as the fronts with no uneven wear. It's worth it to spend whatever the cost of the camber kit is to not have to keep buying low-profile tires all the time.

I had the camber kit installed. $200 CDN for parts, $200 CDN for labour. I can feel way more stiffness and better handling already, but I still need an alignment.. just have to get it into another garage to get it done after the car show this weekend. Thanks all.. i'll let you know how my new falkins hold up!
