for those with stock 2gb and probably 2ga stock bumpers have a new way of mounting it. I went to my local mitsu dealer and ordered the evo plate bracket for the front. Take the bracket home do little sanding to the upper lip of the bracket to get it to perfectly match the contours of the bumper(its almost perfect as is). And then there you go a front plate that is mounted off to the side away from the intercooler, you can't get pulled over and harrased for it and you won't have to worry about popping your hood.

So do you have any pics of it?

Yeah the officer who pulled me over didn't care that I bought my car without a front plate...I ended up just making a bracket, same location that stock eclipses mount them. I just put mine on just to keep an officer from having any reason at all for pulling me over, kinda gives them more of a reason to be an ass.

mine is in my air dam, but once it gets nice out, it's coming off and ill just tell the police that the bracket got broken in the winter and that im waiting for new mounting hardware... and i also have a good excuse cause the mitsu dealer where i normally get my parts went out of business (real shady, but whatever) and im sure they will accept that.

*Goes outside and removes front tag*

You guys are such a good influence :thumb:

Pffffft....front liscense plate.I haven't had one of those in well over a year.I keep mine in my door panel holder.Just in case I get pulled over,I can reach for it and throw it on the front windshield.I dont think its legal to keep it there but hey, having it behind your windshield is better than not having one at all, right?

I haven't gotten pulled over for it yet,but everytime I pass a cop I cringe and cross my fingers he wont pull me over. Not real hard to notice I dont have a front plate with the way my bumper is.. :|

Just paint a replica plate on your fmic, LOL. ROFL

If you have 2 brackets, break one. Keep one in the door holder and be like "Look, it broke.. I have to pick one up, just low on funds." Or something along those lines, haha. Could work? ROFL

Well, here in Ohio I got a ticke for failure to display front license plate even though I had it in the corner of my windshield in plan site, well I have a bodykit and now I am installing a FMIC so where do I put my license plate at? for a while I had it right behind the center mesh but now I don't want that hogging all my FMIC's air! here's a pic, James.

You can mount it off to the side, jay-dee-m style. But if it was me, I'd just zip tie the license plate on, get the ticket written off, remove it and hope they never catch ya again. I was cited $15? I think it was a couple years ago for it. I figure paying $15 and and some nylon ties is alright compared to having a big ugly plate dangling off the front of the IC. Otherwise, depending how anal your officers are, there is a guy over here that cropped his license plate so that he only had the letters and numbers, and mounted the little 4"x8" (or so?) modified plate on the skinny part of the bumper above the IC. Not a bad idea

check local DMV regulations. Some state must be diplayed on the vehicle, so having it on the dash in the vehicle, is IN not ON. it IS illegal to alter the state plate, even a sticker other than that required for registraion ect is illegal and if the officer is bored, your risking it. Just search you local .gov site or DMV site, most have online code books npw. However like most codes, they are typically written so vauge that its up to interpurtation of the officer.

In your case, I can not think of a decent looking place to even mount the plate to the vehicle.

I understand, this is what I had before but like I said, but now that the front mount is in I'm thnking of just putting it in the window again and just say forget it!

just put it in the window. that is where i have mine. i live in a state that requires it in the front. they want it visionable*sp* for a cop to see it from the front. most cops dont care. as long as its somewhere in the front via window. if you get pulled over. just tell the cop, you dont have anywhere to mount it in the front. heck even show him.. be like officer where can i put it? there is no mounting brackets. i took mine off my car so i could use that reason. works everytime for me. they just say. *ok its a warning.. you need to get it fixed* and let you go. or if all else fails they give you a normal fix-it-ticket. zip tie it up take it up to the court house. show them and they will drop the ticket.

I live in IL where front plates are required. Last 3 vehicles (9 years) have had no front plate, driving every day. I've gotten one ticket (when I was parked overnight at Ohare), just paid it and kept on driving. I'd take your chances with it off, it's bound to get you busted every 5-10 years if you can handle the $75 once in a blue moon.

Like everyone else said man, you have a nice looking car you dont want to put an ugly as$ plate on it. I got pulled over once for it, and i told the cop my car did not come with a mount from the factory, putting one in will cause my coolant and intake air temperatures to raise. And i won't drill into my bumper to get one. Still got and paid the tickets, haha. I put it in my windshield for a while afterwards and got pulled over twice, one commented on it and I said i was waiting for the bracket to get in the dealership. The other didnt notice. Most cops will be somewhat lenant if you have a licence plate thats visible from the front(windhsield)
I'm about to move to ohio! columbus actually, isn't very incouraging to know that the cops will treat me the same there. But i hear they have no emissions or inspections?? haha.
If you really want to mount it on that, i'd go with one of the lower corners.

Hey jwahl425, hows the conversion going? I thought I would speak up here.

In my experience I have been pulled over the most for not having a front plate than anything else! Everytime I drive on RT. 2 I expect to get pulled over, No Lie!

My experience with having the plate in the window is that it draws more attention to your car because it is not where it should be, if the cop is bored, you are an easy target.

I would just say go without it. I do have mine behind the mesh but it is hardly noticable.

I have never actually gotten a fine with not having the front plate on there. Of all the times I have been pulled over I have come away with a warning only.(knock on wood).

My tips are: Be friendly to the officer, start bsing with him and get his mind off giving you the fine, if he sees you have a good attitude, you may get off with a warning.

Also my most commonly used excuse is "I'm on the way to the junkyard right now to get one", "here is the screwdriver". ROFL

Good luck. See you around

hey, I Just upgraded to the 97 EClipse bumper

but i still cant decide where to put my front license plate, shit looks too good to cover up with an ugly plate...where do you think is the best place?

stock, grille, off center?.

im in canada so its mandatory.

p.s. i know this thread is pretty stupid but i really cant decide for myself need some input!!!

my friend left his on the windsheild for the longest time, and everytime the cops pull him over they see it right there and give hima ticket. they say its gotta be on the front bumper.... its whack...

You can put it there. I think it will def look good. Now if someone can photoshop a plate there.:thumb:
