Front License Plate Mount [Merged 6-7]

Where I live, it is illegal to not have a front plate, so i was thinking about taking mine off the bumper, and install it in the grill somehow, it would be alittle more hidden but still there. any suggestions on how it would look good?

My brother has a 99' eclipse and got pulled over for no front lisence plate... so he had to put one in... he's not home rigght now but i think he mounted his in the grill... im pretty sure he is a member of this site, but oh well, ill check it out once he gets home. :dsm:

in many states it is illegal to not have a front plate. but the leter of the law can often be different in those states.

some say visible within 10ft of the car towards the front 90 degrees.
some say a vehicle that was not equipped with a front plate from the factory (read: Corvette, porsche) are not required to show a front plate.
some are blanket laws that regulate to the front most portion of the car (front bumper).

If you are lucky, you are the middle one, then you go get a factory bumper that has never been drilled into, and you tell the cop that the car didnt come from the factory with one :thumb: . Oh lucky me!

what really licks my balls is that almost every state has a regulation regarding how LOW a headlight can be to the road (for safety reasons or some BS), but they dont have a regulation about how HIGH the headlight can be off the road. . . IE: Hillbilly Jeddy-Jo-Jo Hickabilly Thomas Bill can have his truck 19' off the ground, and shine his headlights right up your anus. Thanks state troopers, your a real safety expert. :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown

I'm glad Michigan isn't anal about any of that stuff. We aren't required to have front plates, cats, etc. I have never been hassled for lights being too close to the ground, ive never even been hassled for driving with red underbody lights on.

Take the front plate off and throw it in your trunk, if you are pulled over tell the officer:

" One of the bolts came off and it was hanging down so i just took it off, im gonna put it back on as soon as i get another bolt, i have it the back cuase i was planning on getting another bolt today from the harware store"

Worked for me.

wtf?? its illegal in illinois????

Yes, it is. My friend got pulled over twice for it. I haven't gotten into any trouble (yet) for not having one on though *knock on wood* I had it in the front windshield at first but a huge rock left a nice spider web on it, I just had 4 little suction cup things to keep it up there.

On a side note... we need to cruise sometime :thumb:

I got pulled over 3 times for mine before I got an actual ticket and not a warning. I got tired of the hassle and left it on after that. Recently I stuck mine in the same place as Defiant's ^, although mine's at more of an angle. It's stuck on with zip-ties, which aren't visible at the angle that it's held on, so it works for me.

mount it with hinges and magnets so that when your car is moving the plate will fold up. after you come to a stop it will fold down.

u lucky bastard! so we will still get in trouble if we put in the windshield??

thats bull.. I think i will try to put it like Defiant's.. just gotta figure out a way to cover the holes up..

In Texas we are required to have a front plate if the car came with one. But you can try to get it re-registered without a front plate, that sometimes works. May cost like $25.

I just took mine off and will wait until I get hassled. Then I will just stick it on top of the dashboard in the front window, which is legal. Makes no sense at all since you really can't read it there anyway, but you know how the law is.

I'm in Illinois and my old mr2 turbo never had a front plate. Some cars don't come from the factory w/ a place for the front plate so they are not required to have one. That is what a local cop told me last summer. If you have no holes how are you to mount it? :D

I have police plates so I doubt I would be pulled over, but check my sig for my simple placement. I put some rubber stripping under the shard edges of the plate and simply ziptied it to my body/intercooler pipes, it's also cool because most of the time it just says "BYE" LOL.

with ever so slightly modifying to the evo front license bracket you can use that to mount the front plate to dsm's well at least 97+ eclipses I don't know how the other fronts would curve to the bracket. I woldn't see why you couldn't do it though. I will try and get my digital camera back soon and take a pic of mine.

I don't know if you'll get in trouble putting it in the windshield or not. I figured if i got pulled over for it I could just do the "one of the bolts came off so i put it there until i got a new one" but i can't hang it there anymore cause of the windshield being busted up

I was thinking about getting some kind of mesh and filling the gaps in the bumper and just bolting it to that.

As far as the holes go... i think there's a parts shop right by the Denny's on lake st. See if they have bondo or something and use that and some touch up paint maybe? I dunno... never did body work before.

There is a motorized bracket, designed for hotrods. Its hooked up to a 12V source which means you can wire in a switch and flip the switch, it folds down, then hit it again, and it goes to normal position. it's $150, and i plan on ordering mine soon. I live in New York, land of more police officers than necessary, and since i like to drive my car, im bound to be harassed about the nofront plate. Its not unheard of here in Central New York to recieve 2 or more tickets Per night for one infraction such as no front plate.

I would recommend leaving it on, but repositioning it to a place that is more suitable to what you are trying to do with it as far as looks. Illinois law is much like Iowa, you are generally allowed one warning for whatever excuse you want to use, then you have 90 days to get that problem fixed. That warning stays in the profile of the computer under that license plate number. So for example, if you get pulled over now and was simply given a warning and was asked to get it fixed but failed to. The next time a squad car is following you and decides to run your plates because you look "suspicious", it will specifically say that you were given a warning on such and such a date. If it happens to be past the 90 days, a ticket will probably ensue unless you have a very compassionate officer. The state troopers are the ones who will be looking to enforce that law more than any other dept., followed closely by the sheriff's dept. The tickets range from $30 here in Iowa to possibly up to $75 in Illinois. So obviously the longer you try to play the game of cat and mouse with the law, the more it will cost you in the end. :thumbdown Oh and BTW, having no license plate gives officers a reason to pull you over and check for pretty much anything they want...drinking, valid insurance, ect., ect. So just keep that in mind if you take part in a lot of late night driving. ;)

Hey If you take a look at my signature you can see I have my front license plate ziptied to my front grill, however in the very near future that will be replaced with a front mount intercooler. Any body got any creative suggestions of where else I could put it besides the windshield. (its mandatory in WA)

cut air slits in it and leave it there? i dunno LOL, looks like ur gonna have to drill into your bumper

It's mandatory here as well, but I don't have one up front and know a lot of people that don't as well.
