I was wondering if it is posible to swap the 4G63 engine into a 1.8L car.
I know sell the 1.8L and just buy a GST/GSX but I like the insurence cost of the 1.8L.

Yeah, its possible with a lot of time, work, and of course cash. Im pretty sure if you do that you'd have to inform your insurance company of such modifications to your car? What is really the difference in insurance for you? It can't be much. My insurance company charged me the same regardless of what car i owned! Couldn't you always just get a gst/x and say its a 1.8? i dont know pleanty of ways to scam insurance, but really i doubt it could be that much more if at all.. get a gsx/tsi!
With the money youll spend now in doing the swap, youll never make up for it in a few dollar a month insurance cap.. maybe if you had a full running front clip for extremely cheap it could be idea..

My rule of thumb is: if you ask this question, you're not ready to attempt it. If you look around you'll notice that most people will suggest buying a turbo if you want a turbo. There is an article about it on www.vfaq.com, however even it has a disclaimer that says "this is to discourage you from trying". :)

No you can't because when you get insured, you give them your VIN #, which tells everything about your car, including engine, trim, color etc, etc. If you change the 8th vin wich is the number for the engine, you would then be insuring another car, not yours, because of your VIN. Sure cheap insurance is nice, but really, how much do you save in a year with a 1.8 compared to a tsi/gsx ? is it more then the swap ? I doubt it ? 2 years? I doubt it too. Just something to consider, besides, for what you can pickup a 1g for nowadays, The turbo option is a no brainer. my 2 psi.

Those articles are about the non-turbo 4G63, the 1.8 is a 4G37. However, it would probably be even more difficult to go from 4G37 to 4G63T.

Years before this board existed, someone had this done to their 1.8. If I recall correctly, he had the work done at RRE and it cost about $4500. This was done in the mid to late 1990's, but I think it could actually be done a little cheaper nowadays if you just get a parts car.

As for insurance, 1G's are pretty old anyway so I'm thinking the difference in insurance between a turbo and an NT isn't going to be that much.

can someone give me a picture of the front motor mount location on a gst/x
If posible both from above and below?

I couldn't find any from the bottom angle, sorry, i'm not sure how youd really get a good shot of it underneath.. It's storming like a sob outside or i'd go out and snap a couple pictures.
Are you going through with the swap though?? Keep us updated if you are..

When your adjuster finds the swap, your policy will be invalidated for fraud. Felony charges could be filed.

Not that anyone has ever asked this question before.
