Freak of a 7 Bolt?

I had bought a 93 TSi AWD a couple years ago with the 7 bolt engine. About a year ago I spun a rod bearing and I was going to rebuild that block. I had torn everything apart and went to install the crank bearings.

The thrust bearing would NOT fit in the center thrust bearing journal. BUT, it would fit in the journal closest to the flywheel. I know this is how the "thrust bearings" are on the Chevy 350's.

That Talon of mine was a FREAK from the factory. If this doesn't blow your mind, I don't know what will. Anyone ever see anything like this? Maybe this is common and I am just unaware of it?

I had another 1G 7 bolt laying around and took the girdle out. Then I layed them next to eachother and snapped a pic. In the pic below, the freak one is on the top. I am almost certain the one on the bottom was from another 1G 7 bolt but it could have been a 2G 7 bolt girdle.

Again, I ordered bearings for a 93 Talon TSi AWD. The bearings were correct, yet the thrust bearing would not fit in the center journal and would only fit in the journal closest to the flywheel.

I had no idea what to do in order to install the bearings, so I got another block to rebuild.

They are the wrong bearings.... They always mess that up when I order them. OR you have a split thrust block out of a late year dsm that only has thrusts on the top

I would call the bearing manufacturer and see what they said.

That would make sense, but the 2g blocks won't correctly bolt into a 1g.

Makes sense, but why would the bearing closest to the flywheel be wider than all the rest?

Have you taken the part number off the package and Googled it?

Also, there is a VIN on the block to see what car/year it came from.

I cannot check the VIN since I no longer have the block. I was just curious if there was a real answer as to why the girdle, bearings, and crank were different.

Vin on the block...F yeah..I learned something today.
