T25 is dead! I have 1500 to spend, im looking at 16g or fpt28 to get me through the summer.
intake, IC piping, 1gen Bov, 2.5inch catback

Im not looking for huge hp, just a nice turbo that pulls hard. 15psi maxs tell nest summer. The car is an sutomatic and FWD

If I get the 16g do i have to get a ported O2 housing??? Do I have to tune the car with the 16g to make it run?

Thanks any help and tips for the install, parts ill need and what not

I would get a evo3 16g I have it on my automatic fwd at stock boost and I like it. It pulls really hard compared to the t25. All you need is a install kit and no you don't have to port the o2. And also I wouldn't waste money on the ic piping if your gonna upgrade to a fmic in the future just my .02

^1 on the piping. Get the turbo and hook it up first. make sure it works/runs fine first. I have a ported FP t28 that I picked up used. I also have an auto with FWD. I like it. Spools up fast street driving. T28 or 16g. Its like Budweiser vs Miller. To each his own.

LOL comparing beer to turbos -- i like that

if you just want to get through the summer and are planning on keeping it stock boost then id go with the plug and play t28 -- with the 16g your gonna have to get an install kit -- if you plan on making big hsp number s eventually then the evo16g can take you there,, all on your goals i suppose

good luck

I would go with a 14b ported and rebuild kit, injectors, fuel pump, MBC and still have enough for DSMlink. That would be just what your looking for all with-in your budget.

Thanks for the imput. What does everyone think of the 18g? And are you sure I dont have to port my O2 housing?

I dont think you should go any bigger then T-28. Rich, i think you should look at the larger picture. Replace the t-25 with a 14b, install kit and fuel pump. After the car is running back to normal, then follow the Guide (Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners) :thumb:

Yea I just called Forced Performance today. Since I'm an automatic, and FWD I've decided to go with T28. I ordered it today, with gasket kit and ported. They were great to talk to and knew what they're talking about. I should feel some gains and its a direct bolt on. It should last me while I'm upgrading everything else.

T28 at 11psi, will this increase my HP just based on airflow?
Thanks again everyone, and cut me some slack I've been driving LS1'S and LT1'S since I was 15, this is very new me.

MOB and fuel pump, sounds like a plan. How do I use a MOB

And this is a big question, im an automatic. What upgrades should I do to this trans, I know it cant be very strong and I dont want to blow it up? Any know what the limits are on the auto trans, ive already ordered translab. Thanks

Rich you gotta start researching alittle man, i pointed out a link that will answer all your questions. Just read up alittle, not everyone is going to answer every single question you have. MOB??? If your talking about a MBC which is a manual boost controller they are very easy to install and use. Again just read up alittle.

I'd go for the 16G. Better reliability, more airflow, cheaper to repair if it breaks....what's not to like?

Even with a full install kit (which you won't really need), an Evo III 16G is cheaper than a T28.

Depends on how much airflow the T28 makes over the T25 at 11psi.

Bigger turbos need more boost to maintain the same efficiency...they also add lag based on wheel size. Buying a big turbo to run the same boost level is the main reason some guys will upgrade and go slower.

I would definitely go with the 16g, it is a great turbo all around and it is very easy to install.

Ok im going to just crank that T28 upto 15psi and save up for the fuel pump. I think ill feel alot of power. Thanks everyone!

The car is done and I wanted to thank everyone for there input and help. The new turbo is amazing and is more than enough to pull 3 cars on my brothers 2001 Mustang GT.
The whole T28 spools as fast as the T25 is dead wrong though. I make full boost at 3200-3500ish. Turbo has some lag, feels like my friends 16g. The main diffrence is in the midrange. Amazing, pulls hard! Great turbo. My only worries is the stock auto trans LOL

Thanks again everyone!!!

Did you replace all the gaskets? Manifold to block, turbo to manifold? Any cracks in the manifold? Easy way to test is run seafoam throught the engine via brake booster vac line. If you have ANY exhaust leaks you'll tell. Also, the t28 will spool alittle slower than a t25 due to its bigger.

^^^Agreed. Hmm, 3200 rpms sounds O.K., 3500 doesn't. Your lag could also be caused by the stock wastegate actuator. Do you have the adjustable FP 17 psi actuator? That would make a difference in how hard the boost comes on, as well as holding more boost.

My T28 equipped GSX on a sidemount I.C. hit 17 psi by 3000 rpms, on my big FMIC it was about 3400 rpms. On my EVO3 16g with my FP manifold and EVO3 intake manifold, the worst it spools is 3500 rpms. The T28 is a good turbo for its size and should keep you happy for awhile. You should list your mods or fill out your mods profile so we can see where you issues might be.

These trans are stronger than people think. Use a trans cooler and a few simple ad ons like clutch kit etc. and ## good to go for a long time.(and u never miss a shift)

I have one of these sitting in my garage along with a ported EVO3 manifold and a supra SMIC that I'd really like to get on my car one of these days. But right now I'm more worried about stopping the oil leaks and getting it to run correctly in stock form. The way I look at it, if it doesnt run right now, adding new variables into the equation is just asking for bigger problems. Keep us posted on how well it performs.

It makes full boost at 3200, im pretty sure. The new turbo is great, I only have set to 11psi.
Intercooler pipping, upper lower and S
1gen BOV
2.5inch Cat back
Intake.

Thats all I have done not too much, but what a diffrenece in the driving. Any advice on were to go next? Anyone have any ideal on HP right now?
