I don't know which turbo to get for my 96 gst. Which one is better? They will both cost the same because the evo III will cost just as much due to the fact that you have to buy the 2g install kit. Friends TSI runs 12.6 with his FPT28. He said its a great turbo. But then my other friend with his gsx says his evo 16g pulls like a beast. He hasn't ran it at the track yet though. I don't know which on to get.

So which one evo III 16g Vs. FPT28?

There are thousands of discussions on this. The clear winner is almost always the evo III 16g. They can be had for around $400 in the classifieds, or a little over $500 from vendors and will bolt right up to your car fairly easily.

DO NOT GET THE INSTALL KIT. They charge anywhere from $200-$350 for it and it is a waste of money. Get a stainless steel oil feed line and a J-pipe and you will be all set. You will need to bend your 2g water lines a bit, but anyone with enough strength to open a bag of potato chips should have no problem doing that. Once that is complete, you can sit back and enjoy paying under $500 installed for a turbo that should put you into the 12s if you have the right supporting mods and good tuning.

i would definitly go with evo III. You WILL get more out of it.

Why do you like the fpt28 for AWD?

why would that change anything at all.... except for a heavier load, aka faster spool from the awd vs the fwd, the engines are the same and i dont see any benifits...its not like either of those turbos have slow spool times...

Yeah I'm not sure either. I figured maybe since the t28 spools a tad quicker? :shrugs:

The turbos are about the same. Just go for the one you can get a better deal on. Also in additoin to blackGSX2g's post, the oil return lines are also different between the T25/T28 and the 16G/14B variances, a new oil return line can be had for $30 from mitsu, well worth it to by new (but you can slot the bolt holes on teh flange that mate at the turbo and do it that way as well, but I have seen several old retun lines leak) . But when it comes down to it, between these 2, just go for the one you get a better deal on.

well a lot of people here me bi*** and complain about this because it has been such a problem with me, but people have trouble with boost creep with the EVO III 16g...now i know absolutely nothing about the fpt28 but if you dont hear much about boost creep and it is the same thing go with that.

I found out on my car i have a 14b. Weird because i bought my car stock from the dealership. I Think the person before me might have blown the old turbo so they just had it fixed for cheap and they put the 14b on it. I noticed that i had a j-pipe and that the side of the housing said td05h so that means 14b or 16g. So sense i have one of those turbos does that mean that i can just put a evo III on there and put a ss oil line and be done without the 2g install kit.
