So my stock turbo blew beyond repair and i eventually want to upgrade to a larger turbo so i guess im trying to figure out if its possible to just buy the upgraded turbo now (i was thinking like a FP big t28) and just run it somewhere between 10 and 15psi until i can save up for an afc/injectors/pump/fmic?

The only mods I have are:
Dave Brode Upper IC piping
1g bov
mbc
2.5" turbo back custom exhaust

I apologize if this is actually answered somewhere else, ive legit been searching multiple boards for a few hours now... maybe someone hear could shed some light on it for me?

Thanks in advance
-Josh

LOL. That's me man. I think you just subscribed to my YouTube. Thanks for that. :D

yes I did, you have a tonne of very informative videos, especialy the ecmlink install as I am buying one soon and have been looking all over for an instal write up,then I stumbled across your video wich IMO is far better than a write up so thank you jrock, OP I bought my 16G from a vendor on here it was $560 or somewhere around there, as for install kit, I pieced it together from ebay, just remember that if you get a new oil return line to sand down the flat ends as for whatever reason they are painted and in alot of cases is the cause of oil leaks, I had a drip from where it comes off the turbo, I changed gaskets like 6 times before another membe sugested sanding the paint off the end, so I did and it put an end to the annoying oil drip.:thumb:

Alright good to know I'll look around and see what i can come up with...

is it worth paying the extra $$ to get it ported? or is it relatively easy to do that yourself without effing shit up...

thanks gain guys

Don't get an Ebay FMIC, get the Punishment Racing one slightly more but you get shop service, better quality (PR are custom made for them unlike universal ebay stuff) and they are pretty much a complete bolt in.

Actually the pr kit is like $50 cheaper than the "eBay" one and if you are referring to the cxracing one it IS the pr kit...

would it be worth saving the $200 or w.e. it is to get it ported to do it myself?
I found a few die grinders for under $20 haha
I just dont know how hard it is to do a GOOD port job...

has anyone had any experience doing this themselves?
and if so do you have any pointers? or things you ran into i should watch out for?

Port what? The E3 16g? It already comes with the 7cm^2 turbine housing, porting will help but is not worth having to pay for it or even doing it yourself. What you WILL have to part is your STOCK o2 housing (if you decide to not upgrade) and even that you can use like that but will benefit from the porting. Another thing worth portinf is your stock 2g manifold (if you decide to keep it) this will allow a smooth transition between the hole on the manifold and the hole on the turbo (since the one on the turbo will be bigger). I've found that ExtremePSI is GREAT with shipping and is usually one of the cheapest on anything you buy. I'd get your stuff from there, they even have in install kit if you decide to be not so smart and buy one ( I say not so smart because it's pretty easy to piece your own).

Good luck.

If your setup for it, porting is definitely worth doing yourself. A good set of carbide burrs, stone wheels, an assortment of hand files, and a high quality electric die grinder make things easier. I think I've done maybe 10 turbos & manifold, 1 intake manifold, throttlebody elbows, 3-4 02 housings, DSM's, EVO's, and now my Subie. You get the idea, once you have the tools you'll find excuses to port stuff, then your buddies parts, and so on.

I highly recommend a high quality die grinder, I use a Milwaukee, forget the amp rating but it has enough torque to snap your wrist on startup. That thing can run for hours, going on almost 6-7 years since I bought it and beat to hell and back and it still runs perfectly.

Dsmparts.com has the e316g for $559 right now and a matched e3 o2 housing for like 114 or something... Then seems how my Mani is getting some hairline cracks in it I was thinking of picking up one of their high flow turbo manifolds which was still cast but supposedly flows better and built with the 16g in mind...

Also their install kit seems to be about the cheapest I've seen and even comes with new lines...

Does that sound like a decent setup? Or does anyone have any other ideas or know of any better deals going on?

I bought my megan racing ported o2 housing off ebay for $86, they are $99 now

Do u think it has advantage or flow better than the evo 3 o2? They said it's 2.5 or 3 inch all the way thru ( I don't remember which) which I'd think is a good upgrade from the stock one...

Not to disagree with anyone here, but a very well ported 2g 02 housing will work fine. Though I've seen some of the Megan 02 housings for an EVO and they are made very well. You are fine with a 2.5" downpipe/tespipe, no gains to be had upgrading to 3". The catback is another story and most definitely a 3" is a good upgrade over a 2.5".

Thanks for all the input on this thread!
If I was more confident in my ability to port things properly myself Id probably look into porting my existing o2 housing, but to send it away for porting would essentially cost as much as just buying the e3 o2 housing and they claim the stock e3 housing (2.5" all the way thru) is about 20% larger for airflow than a ported US stock o2 housing

Don't pay for the porting, do it yourself or just leave it alone. You shouldn't have to port it if you're just aiming for around 300 hp.

I think you should go on Extremepsi.com, buy the Evo III 16G for $589.95, get their install kit for $199.00, and call it a day. You will definitely be happier with the 16G over the FP big-28. I got my Evo III 16G for $150 in great condition with barely any shaft play and I can't wait to put it in this weekend.
