I have a 1998 Eclipse GS-T Spyder. I recently bought the car and the guy I bought it from through in a FP Big 28 turbo with the car that he bought and no

Sorry. Didn't mean to have it post yet. Anyways, he bought the turbo and never had it installed on the car. My question is, how much difference can I expect if I install this other turbo. Right now I have about 14-15 lbs of boost.

Sorry. Do not have a lot of experience in turbos. Don't know how a 16g feels. Any appropriate numbers? Lbs of boost increase? HP increase?

It doesn't really work like that, at all. Before you go bolting turbos on you need to do some reading on the basic concepts.

The only appropriate number is 550 CFM from your T25's..I want to say like 250 CFM.

I agree. That's why I am kinda trying to start my research here. Trying to figure out if bolting on the new turbo is even worth it.

At 15 psi, you won't feel much of a difference at all.

My opinion would be to get 660cc injectors, wideband, dsmlink v3 and get it tuned. I recently got my spyder tuned on dsmlink and I'm at 298 whp on 20 psi, definitely has more in it.

Haha. I really am a newbie. I have always been more of a V8 Detroit muscle kinda guy. This is my first DSM and still learning. Other than the injectors, I have no idea what your talking about. Lol

Wideband is an o2 sensor that reads your air/fuel ratio, ecmlink v3 is tuning software and IMO one of the first mods you should purchase for your vehicle, you can make even a completely stock dsm run alot better and squeeze a little more juice out of it

Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners

By your Profile, no mods are listed except Intake, and spark plugs.

So first things first, how do you know you're reaching 15psi? the stock BOV commonly leaks around 12psi.

Before getting into Engine tuning, widebands, etc. follow the Upgrade path, and start from the beginning.

Replace the Boost gauge, so you can get an accurate reading
Replace the BoV, 1g Bov's are great!, aftermarkets also do well. (Please recirculate)

Now that you're holding pressure, and can actually give it a numerical value.

Think about fuel the stock injectors will easily handle an Fp Big 28 @ 15 psi, Rewire the stock pump

now a boost controller.

Hope this can get you started.

Oh, and to answer your first question, the FP big 28, spools quick ( full boost by 3k rpm) hits hard, and holds til redline.

It mounts just like stock, looks stock, easily fits under the factory heat shield.

Basically it's night and day with a FP big 28, and the t-25. Think going from 4cylinder to small V8

With the right supporting Mods, and following the upgrade path, it's a great performer, and very streetable.

Are you sure its the BIG FP T-28?
There's also the regular t-28 which is pretty much the same as a t-25.
Did he give you any paper work? Or can you post some pics of the turbo?

^^ Follow that route. The Big T28 is a good turbo, definitely capable of giving you a kick back and it will spool almost as fast as the t25 but with more capability on top end. Like it's been said, you'll need the supporting mods to really have fun with it. You won't be able to truly use it's power until you have the fuel system on the car upgraded and a way to monitor everything.

One thing I have to ask though, is it new? You'll have to check whether it has play if it isn't. If it does, chances are you'll need a rebuild before you install it.

There are a fee other upgrades that it has that I am figuring it all out. Just got the car. It has an aftermarket boost gauge that reads about 14 it so OSI of boost. I assume its accurate. And yes. I have pulled the numbers off and ran them over the internet. Also, the big 28 has 9 spines on the turbine while the t28 has 10. But thanks for all the insight. I'm still sorting out some other issues before getting serious about a lot of performance upgrades. Just trying to get more knowledgeable about my options.

Here it is. It looks new and never installed. But didn't exactly come in a shiny new box or anything.

Absolutely. Only gave $1400 for the car and the turbo runs for about $800 and something new

Cant go wrong with a datalogger. This will allow you to monitor some important vitals. Simply all you need is the software(most are free), a palm, and cable that goes to the obd port under the dash. Would also give you an idea of how the car takes to the turbo as far as injector duty cycles and knock if you do decide to put it on without any other modifications also.

Awesome. Something I will definitely look into in the future

Got in touch with the previous owner and got a list of all the upgrades that he had installed prior to me buying the car and it seems that the car already has all the things you mentioned. MBC, Fuel Pump rewire, 1G BOV, Etc. Ive update my upgrades to reflect all the upgrades. Im seriously thinking about going ahead and installing the Big28. If so, is there anything I have to change when changing turbos? And what do you recommend for the next upgrade to get the most bang for the buck? Not trying to drop 1000s in it and it doesnt have to be a race car. But trying to get it as peppy as possible on a budget.
