Found bare block

Ok i read through a bunch of posts on how to tell what kinda motor it is but none of them told me how to figure out by just the bare block nothing else. How can I tell if its a first gen 6 bolt by just the block. There was a first gen valve cover next to it but I want to know for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The journals are different widths...i suppose if you could get your hands on some bearings you could see how they sit in the journals. Not too sure of the exact specs tho, maybe someone here does and you could just take a set of calipers and measure em up.

what about a part number on the block or something, then call the dealer or use caps.
