When I bought my one g the guy was trying to tell me that the motor was rebuilt 50 miles ago I clearly could tell it wasent due to the fact that it was coated in grease. Well today I was doing maintence on it and saw that it had a solid head gasket and when I changed the plugs I could see that the pistons were labeled with there corresponding cylinder number. From my knowledge stock pistons are not numbered what do you guys think?

How are they numbered? A stamp? or with dots making the number up?

Do you see any other numbers ?

Not all guys clean the grease off when they do a rebuild so i wouldn't use that to judge if it was rebuilt or not....

Does the crown of the piston look smooth? Or is it textured some?

Was it done in a permanent marker or something of the sort, or are the pistons etched?

If it's just marker, you would think that it would burn off after X amount of miles though.. so if it's still there, it's fairly fresh.

Likely they were just matching piston to cylinder themselves, which is common for re-ring/hone or rebore. Was either performed?

Can you see a raised dot in the center? That would indicate the likelihood of a 1g cast piston head.. unless there are forged pieces out there with the same..:hmm:

Its stamped into the piston not anysort of marker or dremmel did it but there is a decent ammount of buildup on the top so that is about all i can see I guess i will find out when I rebuild it this summer.

Maybe you should look further into it. Why would you rebuild an engine that may have been rebuilt not long ago? I can't think of any major brand pistons with the cylinder number stamped onto them. Any chance you could snap a pic?
