Any atf +4 will do... no need for high dollar fluid. Ask John at IPT LOL

I believe its around 7... took more when mine was dry from rebuild
 
I buy 2 gallons when I am tearing down and taking the VB out. It doesn't quite use it all so 7 qts is about right.
I agree with @enriquez2000 about filter and new fluid, always.
Hey Sean, when i talked to John, he had moved up to Dextron 6. But the tried and true atf+4 is always perfect for me.

Interesting... dex6 is a gm product and atf+4 is chrysler... John knows his stuff but id personally stick to +4
 
As much as I trust the experience, ATF+4 is going in. Do you use a friction modifier?

Thanks for the great writeup. Made this so much easier. I am having an issue where it does not seem to shift into 4th. All it does is beep. This is with the 3g shifter. Will shift 1-3 but not into fourth. Its winter here in new england so this is just sitting idling. Any ideas? Should add this is the new smart150 which is really nice but little info on it. Again thanks for any help and the great writeup. I never post anything on here but it has given me so much great info.

Do you have it wired through smart module?
 
Thats how I control my rachet shifter... make sure your od switch is working and set up
I am running a 3g eclipse shifter so i should not need a od switch correct? I can force it into 4th by activating the solenoid with my labtop but not with the shifter. I guess is need to go and try playing with it a little more. Must be missing something.

Im not 100 percent on the 3g shifter but something needs to signal OD on or off
 
Here is direct from forced four for you

"Either overdrive is configured to be off, the older firmware allowed you to disable by holding the up button. He can first try shifting to 3rd then press and hold the up button, if it shifts into 4th after a few seconds it should now allow normal shifting. There is a safety that prevents shifting to overdrive at WOT, so if the TPS isn’t configured correctly it could also block overdrive. If that doesn’t work I would need more info, how it is configured and what firmware version is on the box. If not using an overdrive off switch, none of the inputs should be configured to overdrive."

I just press and hold the upshift button and it turns OD on or off. The handheld has a little orange or green light to tell you on the Smartshift 100.1 unit.
 
Thanks for the input enriquez2000. Im gonna take another look tonight to see if i am missing something. I saw the OD disable feature but dont think it was on. Ill try calibrating the tps again to see if that helps. Again thx for the help. Ill let u know what i find

I also have the 3g shifter. Are unable to shift up and down in triptronic? Will it let you go into 4th at all? The plug for the 3g shifter will plug right into the 2g harness. But I forget what wire, but you need to cut a wire off the 3g shifter and splice it somewhere. If you already did this then great. But if you didnt, let me know and I can check the exact wire from my car.
 
I have a converted 3g tiptronix shifter all rewired and ready to install per its PO. I don't use them or know anything about them but if I can help, let me know. (My buttons are on the steering wheel) ;)

I have the shift box wired into the 3g shifter and it will shift up and down as it should. 1-3 seems to shift fine but just beeps when i try to engage 4th. On the diagnostic tab it show the solenoids engaging for 1-3 but when u try 4th it just beeps at me and wont shift. Double checked last night and OD is not disabled. If i tell it that it has 5 gears then it will shift into 4th. I must be missing something. Wish they had more of a owners manual for these things. Doesnt help i bought the smart 150 which just came out, but it seems pretty similar to the 100.1. Im gonna try to grab a video of me trying with to shift with the diagnostic screen open, maybe that will help. Luckily i got some time to kill cause we still got a ton of snow.

Did you wire together the wires from the 2G shifter that engages OD?
Hey DogWhistle (great name) This is on a 1g that i auto swapped so there is no stock auto wiring at all. For the 3g shifter is have the 2 shift wires,2 for ground, and 1 for auto/manual switch. I dont believe it has anything to do with wiring, as it shifts as it should just no OD. Seems like a setting in the shiftbox im missing. Haven't actually driven it anywhere since the install just around my yard so maybe it is speed related or something.
 
When I did the 3g shifter in my 1g, it would just beep if 4th gear was disabled. Try holding the upshift button on the shift box, or the shifter while in 3rd gear. It should unlock 4th if that is your problem. If that doesn't work the problem is something else. I've installed three 3g shifters in 1g's, and 2 in 2g's all using forced four shift boxes. Shawn has always replied to all my emails with any questions along the way.
