i'll be getting my ecu on monday and have a stage 3 chip that'll be in it. what i'm wondering is, since the computer will now know to compensate for my 650 injectors, will i have to worry about adjusting for idle anymore on the maft? or just worry about the low trims for now on? thanks!

scott

Just zero your MAFT out and set it up like you are running stock 450 injectors. It shouldn't take much tuning with the MAFT to get things dialed in with Keydivers chip.

hey man your located in panama city too? ive never seen your 94 driving around thought my buddys 92 was the only 1gb in PC. hey hit me up in an email maybe we can talk. their are many others out here in panama city man and we all ushally get together on fridays man.

thanks david :talon: :thumb:

I just recently installed a stage 3 keydriver chip and my GM MAFT settings needed some tweaking. With the MAFT zero'ed out the car was lean at idle, had to add 2 clicks on the maft. Cruise between 2100rpm and 3500rpm was pig rich, had to subtract 15% on the SAFC. Finally WOT was close but the Dyno and Wideband showed a rich condition, but as soon as fuel was taken away knock spiked. It Seems my car likes to run rich 10.5 to 11, if I tune for 11.5 or even 12 with some race gas the knock appears over 4800rpm. I guess next yr i'll concentrate on the stock bottom end and maybe go stroker.

Sorry I got off track. Other positives of the DSMchip is the phantom knock code, increased closed loop cruise, increased air flow maps and better timing maps.

The install of this chip has made my daily driving fun again and not a chore of RE-tuning on the fly with the SAFC every 100 miles.

When you get it, set your fuel pressure where Jeff (or you) suggested for the chip, zero out everything (as already mentioned) and of course, have the boost dialed down. I see people set their boost at 22psi and try tuning from there.

Drive it around and look at your trims. From my experience, the chip normally runs a little richer so you may have to adjust the "base" knob either 1 click or two leaner (check your trims though!) but the tuning will be much much easier this time. You'll see. :thumb:

um, okay but i still keep my aux and base settings for the size injectors i'm running right? surely i wouldn't set it up for 450's?!?!?

If the chip is going to comensate for your injectors then yes set the maft for 450's or else you will run too lean.

Like 1fast2G said, if you order a chip that compensates for larger injectors such as 550's or 650's then you set the MAFT to ZERO for the base. Then after driving for a while start to fine tune with the idle, MID and WOT settings.

shew, i'm sure glad you told me that cause i sure as heck would've been setting it for 650's or so for SURE!!!! thanks man, i sure appreciate it. ya probably just saved me from buying a new motor :)

okay i just threw in my ecu with the chip. guess 1st i'll say that after 0'ing everything out and just getting the injectors for 450 it started right up with no idle problems or anything.

but i think it's running rich. gonna pull some fuel out once the trims start moving around a bit more maybe. i know i just started it up and all and it's only been one day but i'm kinda wondering about the timing. it's up and down. up and down. very little to no knock at least but the timing has me wondering. maybe because it's sputtering at high rpms. anyone have any ideas?

other than that i guess i'll just drive it around some more and do some logs. just didn't think the timing thing is normal though. but like the chip so far. :thumb:
