I found u nut as a search to find a lot of nuts that are similar to the Mitsubishi stock nut, but I could use some help to identify a good substitute.

What exactly is the factory nut? Is it metric machine thread or some sheet metal size?

I'm thinking this is what your talking about. This is the only thing that holds the bezel in place. Looking up the part number the picture sort of looks like that clip. Hopefully this helps.

Thank you for the pictures, that is the one I’m looking for. As its literally the only thing holding them in place, I wanted to make sure to find a good fit.

Any U clip will be fine but you may want to try match the hole for the OD of the screw itself. You can convert to a metric bolt pitch vs screw as it would be stronger infact so maybe converting to an M5 or M6 thread and a dome bolt vs a screw.

When restoring the Panda Talon, we just used generic off the shelf U clips for the rear side marker lights and such, and just made sure the hole size would accept the screw OD itself as to not be too small and bind up.

IF in doubt, you can be an assortment kit and bet you'll find what you need from that and then you'll have heaps of spares for life

They sell the fasteners at auto parts stores.
Maybe the smaller one will fit best:
you can buy universal ones at the auto parts stores in the fastener isle where they sell plastic fasteners. They may not be exactly the same as oem but they use the same “folded metal with threading” as the oem style

I went to OSH who has a monster rack of fastners, and they had flat speed nuts, but not u nuts. Shocked actually not to find some. I skipped the auto parts store this time. If these two are not good I’ll keep looking.

I went back to OSH, cause I must have missed the U-clip bins - and found some.

Comparison between OSH and Amazon, this time Amazon clips worked out better: Note the barb and design for thicker material
