FMIC piping

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

One option is the CX Racing FMIC piping. You can order just the piping from them with the silicone couplers or the complete kit. Obviously, it isn't anything spectacular, but its the same thing as the Punishment Racing kits that everyone was using forever. May need to modify the piping a bit, but this seems to be the only kit out there anymore.

Is there any reason why companies are not including piping with their FMIC's anymore?

What are people doing for piping these days?

Man things have change in 10 years.

They did this originally to compete with eBay-fabulous DSMers that wanted to spend $200 for a full FMIC kit from China. China did what China does and killed the market, then stopped making the FMIC kits because it wasn't selling like it used to. Now the only thing left are just the basic stuff that can be used for multiple platforms. ETS got rid of all their jigs and equipment to even make DSM FMIC piping for example. Same with Buschur, as I asked both and offered the full amount up front for them to make a set for me, but both refused stating the reason given. Can't blame them, as it doesn't make sense to have equipment taking up space in a shop that you'll never use because some DSMer wants to put chinesium on their cars.

TL;DR eBay is the reason. Make a WTB ad and hope to get lucky, or gotta find someone who will fab you up a set.

I was bummed when this started happening years ago. I'm going to change my turbo setup here soon and I'll need to change my lower pipe probably have my buddy weld me one up he's rather handy with a tig welder.

Yeah I totally get it. The number of dsms is only getting smaller, probably much smaller of a market then there was 10 years ago. But at the same time your selling half a product.

Those universal piping kits wouldn't help at all on the short route coolers out there.

I guess my brother is gonna have to fab me up some piping.

ive noticed the 92-94 front mount intercooler kits with piping are $300 on ebay with the intercooler. the piping is extremely similar for the 95-99 cars but you may have to shorten 2 of the intercooler pipes

The CXRacing piping follows the short route and hooks up to intercoolers that have the ports at the bottom like my ETS street intercooler. I installed this piping back in February

I had to shave a little off the inside bumper on the drivers side but that might be because of the 6 bolt swap sitting slightly different than a 7 bolt.. Wasnt off by much, but enough. The kit is complete with the throttle body elbow, a jpipe (the new jpipe sits in a different position compared to the stock 1g jpipe.), jpipe gasket and is flanged to fit a 1g or Greddy bov.. anything else would need a Greddy to (name of bov) adapter. Its a pretty good, decently priced option considering the lack of options out there.

Bushcur LLC racing is making complete front mount kits now again for the 1g platform and all.
I talked to Dave about a week ago. They are producing them.
They all come flanged stock with tial bov
And all come with iat bung weld on for speed density and all piping is black powder coated I recall.
I am going to order his piping kit for my buschur intercooler core I have from them.

I don't know how to weld, but what I do is I just measure everything up and use stencils to get a very good idea of how the piping will run. What I do is I model up the piping and curved sections in CAD (Solidworks) following the dimensions given on the website I'm purchasing the pipes off. I then make a 2D drawing of the crossection in 1:1 scale, print it, and cut it out. This gives me a "flat" representation of the pipe and elbows I may need. Can use cardboard for stiffness. Then you mock everything up, get a much better idea of what types of elbows and straight sections you'll need. With that info, I order the piping, and once I have them, I start making the cuts one by one and connecting them up with tape. The end result should be a 95% accurate fitment. The other 5% can be accounted for if you're gonna use more silicone couplers.

My advice is to use as little couplers as possible. Realistically for almost any intake system on most cars, be it transverse or longitudinal, you CAN get away with just 2 couplers at the cooler, 1 coupler at the turbo outlet, and 1 coupler at the Throttle Body, so a max of 4. The rest should be solid welds. So for example, on the setup James posted above, you can safely ditch the two couplers at the middle and have a weld there.

Hope this helps.

Another main reason people stopped making pipe kits vs back in the day is the days of 16/20G turbos as a mass used turbo are now gone! Intake maifolds, space and exhausts now create so much issue with fitment no one package will fit. So We also killed it off ourselfs with now expanding requirements for the engine bays. Its much better for companys to offer the we fabricate in house for your needs if you cannot do so, since now 99% are always different in everyway its the only way to go.

Its not just our chassis that have this issue but any others that dont you are restricted on parts you can use with it. We also have 2 heights for intake manifolds which also dont help vs other chassis which always work to the oem height so lowering a pipe could clash with the trans which again does not help us.

OP I feel your pain. I've been in and out of the DSM community over the last 3 years. I've owned (3) 1G's so far, just picked up my next one last year, it was stock. I decided as I've gotten older to build things more myself, learn new trades, and be more patient. So I knew I was going to install a FMIC on my 1990. Upon my research, they don't make a kit for my car, so I went out and purchased a budget TIG welder that can handle aluminum. Took some classes for free basically watching YouTube. I purchase some practice kits and I'm off and running. I've been fabricating my aluminum 2.5" I/C piping to match my beautiful ETS core. You can get into a TIG welder for aluminum for about $500 give or take. Just a thought for you if interested.

Respectfully

Yeah fabricating is almost a need to know now for these cars.

My brother is a welder, so I know he could help me. He is actually about to leave his tig welder at my shop, so maybe I'll try and get a little practice in. It just sad to see the aftermarket for our cars dying. It's nearly impossible to find any exhaust now too.

I did contact Buschur the other day about 1G Catback systems, (that is all I ran back in the day), they emailed me back that they are now making them again to order if you need. Full kits as well. Good luck...
