"fluttering" turbo noise

Before the engine reaches normal operating temp, the turbo makes a normal spooling sound. However after it reaches normal temp, whenever I hit boost there is this fluttering sort of noise. It happens as soon as it reaches 1 psi and it sticks until it reaches full boost. I have the stock BOV and only a k & n. There is nothing else wrong with the way the engine or the turbo runs. It still hits full boost and you can certainly feel it. Does anyone have any idea as to what this could be? Thanks in advance.

I think your turbo has some shaft play.

My turbo is doing that as well though it's getting a 20g upgrade.

i checked it but there was no movement. what im wondering is why it only makes the noise when its warmed up. Im taking the turbo off next week to clean it up because when i changed the manifold i saw there was a lot of buildup so i might port it while im at it too. thanks for the help kinda.

No its not leaking. I tried putting a different BOV on but it made no difference. Thats what i thought it was at first too. I ran my fingers over the fins but i didnt notice anything. Ill find out more once the turbo pull it off.

You have an exhaust leak somewhere look for it.

Once again I would have to agree with 2.4. If you cant find an exhaust leak, then look for a leak in your intake. I have a rather big hole in my intake, because my bov return tube broke off and it kinda does what you are expalining.

I see what youre saying but the reason I believe it is still turbo related is because i can bring the RPMs up and there will be no noise if the boost is still at 0 but as soon as you start boosting it makes the noise. Tomorrow I will finally have the time to pull the turbo off. Im probably gonna take the exhaust off too to have a looksy. Hopefully Ill have pics and such.

Well i finally finished the turbo. Didnt run into too many snags but i noticed a few problems namely a few cracks. One is about 2 inches long and it is on the outside of the housing and the other is where the wastegate flap is. There is a crack that runs all the way through the housing and you can see through it. I think this may be causing the 'fluttering' noise. Not sure though. I have a few pictures and Im gonna put them probably later today. One question that I have is if its safe to use JB weld on the turbo. I dont know how hot it actually gets and i dont want to risk causing more damage. Pictures will follow...

Why not just but a new or used stock turbo. They can be had cheap.

Or upgrade to a real turbo.

DO NOT USE JB WELD it wont work. Jb weld releases a toxic gas when it gets hot, not a good idea. Get a used or new turbo via ebay.
