I'm painting my 2g eclipse and I'm just curious if on everyones oppinions on if I should do a flat, rat rod black, or a gloss black? the whole rest of the car is blacked out. (taillights, headlights, rims)

I just finished spraying primer, and I thought it looked kind of cool with flat black primer, which gave the the idea to paint it rat rod satin black.

What do you guys think?

These are the only pics I have right now, I only put the one headlight in for a second to see how it looked, and I haven't put the tail lights or anything else back on the car yet.

Yeah I thought It looked cool, I'm not too sure what the actual satin black paint will look on the car, but I'm sure it'll look better than the primer. and the primer actually looks good in my opinion

I say gloss. It just looks unfinished in flat. Just look how unfinished it looks right now. And rat rod black should stay on rat rods LOL.

That 2g above seems more satin than flat. Flat looks like there was no effort done to paint it, even if there was.

to me this car looks more flat black.

it looks like a faded satin black. some of the angles look more glossy but ultimately its just the cam and angle trick.
parts of it still look just faded from what would be a good dark black. Look at the metal parts like the hood in this pic, look at the body right above the rear bumper in the second pic. look at the spoiler. it all looks way too light and not as sleek. that's just my opinion. But it does look like a honda black paint job to me.

Flat black looks like someone couldn't afford the clearcoat. Just looks unfinished and while it's a novelty since it's rare, generally doesn't look good to me. I much prefer a nice deep black with pearl.

I have always been a big fan of flat black. Mine will probably be flat block when I get back to working on it.

This isnt really flat. It is satin. I.E. the intermediary between gloss and flat.

Flat would look like you just went to walmart got some krylon, and rattle canned that bi*** with the .99$ cans.

That car however looks really good.

I painted mine gloss Super Jet Black, I like it. So you can see what that looks like from my photos. I'm not a big fan of flat black. Like someone said before, it looks unfinished.

i like it but im just wondering if it would look better gloss
i guess its up to you at the end but i think flat looks good too

Yeah, I'm having a hard time deciding, I like the satin black, but most people wouldn't appricate it and they would think it looks unfinished, but I want something that's out of the normal.

Hmmm...

My first instinct when reading the thread was GLOSS! However after looking at your car now...leave it! What the heck primer is that?

Honestly, I forgot what kind of primer that is, I just asked for some good filler primer at the automotive paint store, and that's what I got haha.

This is my car, I painted it myself using SEM Hot Rod Black. It came out very nice is has a very dull shine and is mostly flat.

How about something different like a satin white or grey? All black everything is cool, but not new or special at all. I do like the satin colors, but the satin black can look like primer especially on an older car.
