Hello guys, I Recently blew out a rod bearing in my engine and am looking at a rebuild. I Got the block pretty much stripped down and its ready to goto the machine shop as soon as i get the funds together.

Now what all should i replace while im at it?
All i know is im getting a full gasket kit, a water pump and new pistons/rings/rods.

anything else i should do now while the motor is apart?

Should i replace the oil pump? Ive heard these last along time. My motor had 162K Miles on it before it blew.

I'd replace the pump since you probably had metal shavings going through it from the rod bearing. Clean and degrease the engine bay while the motor is out. Eliminate the balance shafts. Remove A/C if you'd like. I can't think of anything else at the moment.

hmmm, i would say crank bearings, but when i did that 2 my 7 bolt it crankwalked 500 miles later, most machine shops never get it right. 6bolt is what i would say, i spent 2000 when i did my rebuild, but i had to rebuild again after it crankwalk now spending another 300 plus the shortblock cost

this is so true! most machine shops are not sucessful at machining the 2g block! my suggestion would be to see if you can find a used low mileage engine and just drop it in the car at least find a used low mileage short block! do a search on the forum on 2g rebuilds and read the horror stories! crank walk is no joke! it its not done right you will be  trust me!!

Im sticking with the 7 bolt, I need to know what all to order for parts though.

A Complete engine rebuild gasket kit, pistons, rings, rods and the water pump are what ive ordered so far.

The timing components have less than 1000 miles on them so i will be reusing those.

Oil pump will probobly be the next purchase. Anything else im forgetting?

is the block being bored or will a hone suffice? If you can get by with just a hone I would reuse the same pistons and rods. Get the crank turned .10 under for the rod and crank journals and order new bearings. I would also get a new water pump, eliminate the balance shafts, new headgasket, and get a new timing belt, tensioner, and pulley.

Should be as good as new.

i will see what the shop says and get back to you guys.

If i get the crank turned .10 will i need non oem sized main/rod bearings?

Thanks guys.

Thanks guys.

Dealer will have Mitsu bearings for .10 over if you want mitsu stuff. No point getting ARP hardware when the stock setup is capable of 400+ HP.

can i reuse my head bolts? they were changed out when i had my head job less than 2000 miles ago they apear to be in good shape.

Also the same about my main bearing cap bolts, Are they reusable ?

thanks

I believe you are supposed to measure them to see if they have stretched. If they are in spec you should be fine. I could be wrong though.

All of this info is in the tech manual.
