So, I recently bought a 1997 Eclipse GST with around 131k on the dash.

Swapped spark plugs and fixed the wiring.

The guy I bought it from had it wired to a stock (non socketed ECU).

I opened the old one (See attached).

The car will start with the stock one but will not with the DSMLink ECU.

Is there any easy checks to see if the original DSMLink ECU is working properly? It will crank with it hooked up but doesn't start. Before anyone asks no I did not get the cable to hook up and run DSMLink (sadly)

Since that's a V3 DSMLink and that red board is the proof of purchase you can buy a replacement cable from ECMTuning.

The basic health check is the same as with a stock ECU. Does the CEL light turn on for 5 seconds and then turn off when you turn the ignition on? Does the boost gauge move to the zero and drop to the vacuum scale when you start to crank and return to zero when you stop?

It's not 100% clear, where did that ECU come from, was it installed in the car when you bought it?
You need to find out first how it's been configured and if any connector pins have been swapped since that's a 95 ECU in a 97 car.

So I bought the car from someone who was trying to get it running. The ECU in the picture is the one that was originally in the car before they swapped in a stock one.

Yes the CEL comes on for 5 seconds then goes off. I need to redo the boost gauge the previous owner had someone messing with a few things under the hood and couldn't get the car to run.

What year is it? Some of them have to reorder the plugs for the spark plugs.
There also a setting somewhere in there for a certain year that needs checked to fixed the CAS setup.

Alrighty, you shouldn't have to reorder for that year but you do have to go in and check the non 95/96 box I'm pretty sure.

Also make sure your 20 amp ECU fuse isn't blown for some reason.
I'll check that.

Also, I did change the CAS. I'm guessing I will need to put back the original one that was in the car then swap the socketed ECU back in?

And thank you! This is my first tuner in about 10 years and know very little, I was a diesel mechanic for a long time so gas motors are slightly foreign to me.

Just an update.

Cleaned and reinstalled the spark plugs, car cranks and acts like it wants to start but doesn't.

I did order the cable for the DSMLink so I can check everything on the car as far as the ECU.

I appreciate all the help

Try installing factory injectors, resetting your injector size in ECMLink, and make sure you have a good VE map. Try to return as many things to stock as possible once you get a cable and laptop.

Will do. I noticed it has a 95/96 CAS, 750cc injectors I believe those are the only two things that aren’t stock besides turbo stuff and AEM camshaft gears

Stock ecu won't run 750 injectors. Are you sure its 96/96 CAS? No reason to do that.
You need the ECMTuning cable and set this up or you need the proper year ECU and run stock injectors.
Not much else you can do unless you know the settings in that ECU.

Pretty sure it’s the 95/96 CAS. I ordered the cable to run DSMLink and see what settings it is on.

The car will run rough with a stock ECU in it, I’ll swap the injectors to the 450cc ones I have and make everything as stock as I can

Show us pics and we can identify CAS

Here ya go boss

Considering you bought a modded car i highly recommend you figure out everything you have. It will be difficult to sort anything out without at least that and then an understanding of what you need. Moving forward can be detrimental and can easily break things.
You can post pics and list anything you know. A profile would help also if you dont have one.

I appreciate it.

I've slowly been going through the car.

The previous owner never registered it and only tried to get it working with no success and left it a mess.

Do you have any documentation? If not you will have to verify yourself, Injector size, fuel pump, ECU settings, etc etc. Does the car have a stock turbo? How did you determine what injector size it has? If you reinstall the ECMLink ECU at a bare minimum you will need to change firing order for a 2gb car.
If you install the DSMLink ECU you MUST verify the configuration. Just installing it and attempting to start is a bad plan.
Please fill out a vehicle profile.

What fuel pump did you install?
A stock one 😂 also the turbo from what I can tell is stock also.

So I swapped the plugs and made the changes in DSMLink it cranks and wants to start but doesn’t…

As for the config.

It’s just the non-95/96 CAS in the MISC on DSMLink and swapping plugs to 3-2-1-4 correct?

What fuel pump did you install?
Is there a reason why the car would run with a stock ECU and not the DSMLink one? Besides the plugs being swapped and the settings in the ECU?

I might just swap the non-socketted one back in. (it starts and runs that way)

I assume you meant wouldn't run. Yes those two items alone, settings and wiring. The car will not run unless configured correctly.

The non-socketted one should run IF everything is stock. Stock injectors, stock MAF, stock fuel pressure etc.

You don't know the settings in ECMLink. I wouldn't try running the car with it. Get the cable and find out. There is no other way. If it is setup for running 750 injectors and you have stock injectors in the car ECU does not know this. It will just run lean as crap because it doesn't know any better

Stock turbo? Pics please.

The cable just came in today.

Everything I can tell is stock on the car except for intercooler, AEM Cam gears, Greddy BOV.

I swapped the stock injectors back into the car going to put the non ECMLink ECU in the car.

The setting when I did connect to the ECU with the cable looked stock. I honestly don’t know what I need to look out for when using the program.

Stock turbo? Pics please.
