First 2G DSM

Hey guys, I have been a new member for a few days now and i have appreciated all the feedback. Thanks!

I am 17 years old, I Just had an 04 hyundai tiburon GT. It was all blacked out! It was a sweet ride for the looks and was somewhat fast, it was the 6 speed manual.

Anyways my question is... Would a 96-99 Gst or Gsx be a better car then what i had? I love eclipse looks plus the turbo makes it all that better! Also another question between the two cars what will i see different in performance, reliability, ect..

I've also had thought about a 94-96 3000GT but thats a different story !

GSX. AWD is better. You'll never want to go back. Just be ready to put in work after you get one. Either gst or gsx.

Dont mean to sway you but have u had thoughts to talons 2gbs look sweet! But id say its a big difference from a tiburon and due to their age you really wanna check some things on the car before you get a DSM.

I will take a GSX over a Tiburon any day for the looks and performance, but be ready to do a good amount of work on it in order to be reliable. Any car not just DSM's are unreliable when the owner doesn't give a s#%t about his/her car.

Any dsm is a big jump from a tiburon.. especially a turbo dsm. Power and performance wise. But like everyone else is saying be ready to break stuff. I break something atleast once a month on my 1g. idk about the 2g guys but my car sees my garage more than the streets lately On the other hand they are great cars and you will learn a ton from them! I know i did anyways, i have learned much much more about diagnosing broken cars from this car than any other car i have ever owned. probably because i have fixxed everything you can think of on this car .

Just remember, you see people go GST-X(fwd to AWD), never GSX-T (AWD to fwd)...

I love people saying theyre great great cars!!!!! But, they break alot and youre always working on them .
Dont get me wrong, i know what youre saying. Im in the same boat. Car is constantly acting up. But im asking it to put out 2 to 2.5times the hp it came stock with. Some guys are doing way way more.

Good piece of advice: Just plan for the worst. Get it in your head that for the car to be nice looking and even better running with gobs of torque and hp you probably will drop 20 grand. Thats a liberal estimate but you wont feel as raped when it only comes to 15k. And def get the awd.

Stay away from the 420A!

Thats just horse shit. I ran my old 98 rs to 225k with NO problems at all. Sold it and saw it out driving a year later. The 420a was a very well built engine if treated right. Like any engine, if you beat it, its gonna beat you

420a is a great engine but if you want to go fast you're better off with a 4g63. Like most people already mentioned, AWD is the way to go, only con about it is more parts to break. Just check the car out very well, look for any rust if you find any stay away from it. Good luck.

gsx is much more expensive to build properly due to the aformentioned reason: more parts to break. The more complex the drivetrain the more money must be spent on it to ensure it doesnt fail. That was tjhe primary reason i bought a fwd. But theres no denying the awd is better

I went from take you anywhere you want to go Honda to hope I make it home eclipse gst and I love the tq and HP bump but like the others mentioned there is a lot more to learn with these cars and mine breaks once a month. Oh and I hope you are mechanically inclined I am almost finished fixing previous owner neglect.

I was 17 when I bought my Talon. Never once looked back. Just do maintenance, maintenance, maintenance and soon you will know more than ever as every topic has been covered in the forums.

Unless you have cash to blow, do not get a turbo car plane and simple. If you have cash and mechanical skills, get a eclipse.
