Finally Got my DSM!!

hey watsup guys

So after a month and a half of long hard searching i found my 1998 GST. The car has been owned by the same guy since 1998 and has been kept in really good condition. He showed me about 250 pages of receipts and documents of the work done on the car from brake jobs to motor rebuild. The cars got about 140k on the chassis but the motor was rebuilt with new pistons, new head, valves, pretty much everything. It has a brand new TRE transmission with modified syncros, heavy duty 1-2 and 3-4 gearsets and an overdrive 5th gear. It has a new ACT 2600 clutch with a Fidanza ultra lightweight flywheel. As for the mods it has a Big 16G Turbbo which is ported and clipped 10 degrees, 660cc Denso Fuel Injectors, Denso 150 LPH Fuel Pump, Super AFC, HKS boost controller, Greddy boost gauge, Greddy EGT gauge, Hks Turbo Timer, Hks super mega flow intake, dejon tool hard intake pipe, Greddy BIG front mount intercooler, Greddy type-s blow off valve (recirculated), Custom throttle body elbow, RRE catch can with breather, Magnecor Ignition wires, ported exhaust manifold, Webcam 546/547 Cams, VP 2.5 inch o2 housing, Road Race Engineering 3" downpipe, High flow Cat, Magnaflow muffler, BandM short shifter (although i dont like it at all......theres alot of play. he said its because the top part is from an old kit he had and in order for it to be better you need the stock part). The car has 18inch OZ rims with brand new tires, Tokiko illumina shocks, eibach pro kit springs, and the AEM big brake kit with 2 piston calipersw from the GSX.

The only things that are wrong with the car are
-Power steering pump Broken
-Ac does not work
-It needs a new Valve cover because the current one leaks oil from the top. Does anyone know the website where they well them powdercoated for a good price? I saw it before but can't find it now
-Tune up (Misfiring really bad)
-Timing belt Cover
-The tint on the car is horrible
-The motor rocks back and forth and shakes alot ( i think this is because of bad motor mounts)

The car starts right up but the idle jumps up and down alot and is really low, it has a cel light he said its because of the misfire. so after the tune up if its still like this then i think its got a bad idle sensor or something. When i drive and when i shift gears if i dont give it gas or shift fast the rpms drop really fast and the car shuts off. i think this is all related with the misfire/idle issue shouldnt be a big deal or hard to fix

On another note, where can one buy the HKS air filter for a 1g? I saw it on your car and I've been debating whether to get a K&N or the HKS... do I need the stock air can to mount an HKS filter?

Smog is good for 2 years........why would have you passed? Just out of curiosity it doesn't really matter to me i've already bought the car.

With the information you provided it has some issues. They could be considered minor. Plus I would never purchase a modified car. This is just my personal opinion not knowing the mileage and price you payed. On a side note have you figured out what's causing the car to misfire?

Engine Misfire Diagnosis

Here's what I've seen most common.
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
Ignition coil
Fuel injector
Wiring to fuel injector
Timing Belt
Vacuum leak or stuck open EGR
Contaminated fuel or bad fuel pump
Weak compression
Blown head gasket

No I haven't figured out the reason for why it's misfiring yet becase I've been really busy with work. I bought the car at the beginning of the week and barely posted up on here today.

I can rule out the headgasket and compression because I did a compression test on the car being cold and it had 180 175 175 180 that's close to perfect.

tkhaab i would have gotten a gsx but they are just so damn hard to find around where i live.....i was even willing to drive to az for a good one but couldnt find any so i settled for another gst for now. im still gunna keep my eye out for a gsx


And DWR-DSM im not talking about just getting it powdercoated, i wanna buy a whole new valvecover which has been powdercoated since the one on my car right now is cracked in two places and is leaking oil. ive got some jb weld on it but thats just a temporary fix

I'd say that's a really good pickup depending on what you payed for it.

Sucks you guys have all those emissions and stuff you have to deal with in Cali. Here it's just title, registration and insurance.

Put in new NKG plugs, I have had lots of misfire issues leading back to bad plug wires. I even bought a new set once and they were bad out of the box, Don't buy the cheap autozone ones. Do a boost leak test. Also I would go over all the settings on the super AFC and make sure they are correct. Good luck man

By the way that is a very nice clean looking eclipse, please don't put those crappy aftermarket brake lights on it That just kills it for the rest of us people trying to not be labled into the ricer catagory. Re-tint it and maybe switch out the front bumper turn signals with the whited out ones and that's about it. Work on getting it fast

i too would have passed on it because it was modified HOWEVER, it took me 2yrs to get my car to what you just jumped into... now you've just gotta work out the kinks. the only mod i would do to that thing now is eprom ecu and dsmlink since all you've gots an SAFC and no logger. do you know if the MAF is hacked (meaning removed honeycombs?) because that will effect your SAFC settings as well. personally id start over on the SAFC and zero everything out and use this to get it idling and driveable... DONT GO WOT and RACE with these settings, these are just to get your car running correctly with the fuel mods it has.

Low Setting:
1K -2 2K -4 3K -6 4K -10 5K -10 5.5K -10 6K -10 7K -10
High Setting:
1K -21 2K -23 3K -24 4K -23 5K -22 5.5K -22 6K -21 7K -18
TH-Point
Lo 30% Hi 80%

get a logger or get dsmlink (id suggest link since you can do SO much with it) but a logger would be the cheaper route.
like everyone above is saying, BLT and run over that engine bay and wires with a fine tooth comb because you never know what corners that guy cut doing the install of all those parts.

good find. I've been trying myself to get a GSX only i've been trying to find it for over a year. my wife surprised me one day with an ESI but the sub frame was twisted and i didn't feel like messing with it. plus i would much rather have a GSX. Good luck with the misfire.
