Well im from 3si (3000gt stealth forums) and my brother got his first car 97 gs. After pulling it in the garage and messing with it and stripping the interior I found out a few things that have me scratching my head.

First of all there is some mangled ebay intake on it with a cheap ass filter on the end of it. The weird thing about this is that there is no MAF. WTF? How the hell is this car running? The car also has headers and a 2.5 straight pipe from the headers back. The car probably doesn't have a o2 either. (scared to look)

Second is the heater doesn't blow hot, so I let the car heat up and reached my hand behind the motor to feel the heater core hoses to see if they are hot, and THEY ARE CUT OFF?! I don't even know what to look for. The car does have a motor swap in it, so I'm thinking (hoping) that they were too lazy to connect the hoses so they cut and plugged them.

Can anyone guide me in the right direction on what to do? I wish we never bought this piece of shit, but oh well it is what it is.

Ok. What you're going to have to do, and this is going to take some time, is go through the whole car and just fix everything you come across. It seems to be fairly common for one guy to totally screw up a car, then sell it, for the next guy to fix. So just break it down by compartments (engine bay, interior, hatch, underbody) and just go through and fix all the problems one by one. Sound like your brother got himself a real winner, but no worries. Just have some patience and y'all can do it. As far as a MAF, I haven't stared at my n/t's engine bay enough yet to figure that one out for ya. So hopefully a more experienced n/t'er will jump in and put their 2 cents in. Good luck :thumb:

hahaha yea I have been. Luckily we have access to a 97 spyder and a 97 gs for FREE parts or else I would cry. The cars are in pretty shitty shape, but I am taking what I can off of them. The engine bays on both are stripped so that sucks. The one has the tranny in the hatch I'm going to take just in case.

Like I said I don't even know why we bought the thing haha.

Can anyone tell me why all of the 2gs I see have the motor with the intake on the left side and the cams and stuff on the right, but mine has the cams on the left and the intake on the right? I was going to take the out of the car at the junkyard (in the back seat) but it was a whole different intake. Can I still use the same MAF?

That happened to me on a Chev pick up truck i bought once. After i installed new heater hoses, i found a leak of coolant on the passenger side floor mat. Bad heater core. I thought is that the previous owner was too cheap to get a new heater core and just decided to eliminate the problem at the source. So dont be surprised if that heater core is bad.

Good luck to you and your brother!

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the N/T DSMs work off of a MAP and IAT sensor, so they don't have a MAF. My 95 had no MAF that I remember, been a while though. And is it missing the front O2 sensor or the rear one?

Those are two different animals my friend. In the 2g GS and RS is the 2.0l 420a non-turbo model. Intake is on the driver's side. In the GST and GSX is the 2.0l 4g63 turbo motor. Intake is on the passenger side down in front. In the Spyder there is the 2.4l 4g64 (?) motor. I haven't seen one in awhile so I forget how those look. Some Spyders came turbocharged, but they should be marked as a Spyder GST or something to that effect.

Ohhh ok the one 97 was a GS and idk what the spyder was. Still stumped on the no MAF deal. Yea I'm assuming the heater core leaks.

2g 420a's run speed density, so no MAF. Just a MAP sensor.

Check the firewall for two nipples for the heater core.
