Hey guys I just recently got my 2nd GSX. It is 96 auto. Some minor problems have popped up and I wwas looking for some advice.

1. There seems to be an idle problem. When I start the car it usually starts fine. But if I park it for say a half hour and start it again it idles really bad and dies. If I pump the gas pedal repeatedly it starts to even out. Once I start driving it runs like a top with no idle problems. It seems like it happens more often on hot days then on colder days but that might just be in my head. When the idle is acting up the oil light blinks repeatedly.

2. When i pull out sometimes i hear a squeaking sound almost like a bird chirp. It sounds like it is coming from the back of the car in the trunk. I recently put some front and rear strut bars on. Could that cause the chirp? Maybe I didnt torque them correctly?

Since getting the car I have replaced the blown turbo it had, changed the spark plugs, oil and filter, etc. and changed a bad front driver side cv axle. The only mods on the car is a 3" turbo back exhaust .

The only current CEL is rear 02 senor becuase it has no cat

Any help would be appreciated because that idle is embarressing LOL

Check spark plug gap (.28-you should NOT expect new plugs to be gapped properly), do a boost leak test. Check (or set) the ISC/BISS, clean the oil/crap off the throttle body. I would check the last things I mentioned first.

As far as the chirp, there is no way to tell, the only way I could tell you where a noise was coming from is if I heard it. Sorry, check the strut bars (if theyre tight they shouldnt chirp, im guessing), suspension bushings, shock/struts (ans mounts). Just look trough everything and see if anything is loose. Check the spare tire area also.

Gap is correct I checked it before I put plugs in. the bad idle happened before i changed the plugs so i dont think it was plug related . Iwill clean the TB and do a boost leak test over the weekend. As far as the BISS goes i will read up on it before i adjust it. im a newbie mechanic and i dont fully trust my self yet LOL. Thanks

I have this problem too :(, so I'll stick around. I'm still running through the usual troubleshooting ideas. this is what was suggested to me so i'll pass it along.

It sounds like the IAC isn't keeping up when it is warm. I would back the idle screw out a quarter turn or so and see if that helps. It should keep the idle the same, just allow a little more air bypass. Another thing to try would be to advance the base timing with the cas a degree or two. Don't go much more than that or you will start getting knock up top.

Check the resistance of the coolant temp sensor when it is cold and fully warmed up and make sure that is in spec. The timing will get thrown off if that sensor is off.

I would recomend checking your fuel pump.
What you are describing it seems its not holding enough pressure after you stop the car.
And that might be the sound you are describing coming from the back of the car. Fuel pumps make noises whem they are going out.

Replace your fuel pressure solenoid. The solenoid is mounted to your firewall on the drivers side and has a vacuum line running to your fuel pressure regulator on the end of your fuel rail. The solenoid changes your fuel pressure on cold starts etc and they commonly fail. I had this same problem and the solenoid was the cause. For a simple electrical test hold the solenoid and have someone turn the key to the run position, you should feel/hear it click.

If this doesnt solve your problem you need to go further. You could also try bypassing the solenoid.

The o2 heater CEL could be your o2 sensor is going. If the heater failed the sensor could be on its last legges. The rear sensor you can do a mod to it for it to read a normal reading you can purchase or make your own piggyback basically a resistor that sends a reading to the ecu of what it should expect. And with a properly working front o2 sensor will work just fine.

Also the 3rd CEL fuel pressure regulator would give you the bad idle.

As for the chirp squeel the rear hatch has some bushings on it that can make noise. From the body shifting and such it moves around.

I will try the solenoid test. And that makes sense with the hatch bushings because it does it when I pull out and turn. I will go ahead and change the fuel pump also. I just changed the front o2 sensor so I hope it isn't going out if I'm not mistaken the cel said heater circuit bank 1 sensor 2.it has an o2 sensor screwed in the straight pipe where the cat was.

Ahhh, yea. The rear o2 sensor is heated as well. Do a few searchs for the piggy back mod for the sensor. If your good at electronics you can make the little doodad from parts from a radio shack and rid yourself of the CEL all together. Or upgrade to DSMLink and turn it off.
